Dangling Banners hints and tips for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Dangling Banners

In two of the corridors just outside of the bounds of the Transfiguration Courtyard, you'll see one banner hanging from the ceiling. Do not think that these banners are useless, because they are very important and you cannot fully complete the game until you find out what they are good for and utilize them. If you approach a banner, then somewhere on the screen it will tell you that you must run up to a banner and press X at the right time to hit the banner. What the game does not tell you is that there are three banners on the ceiling that you must hit. First, determine where the end of the corridor closer to the banner is (stand at the entrance next to the banner). Now, run up to it and hit it right when you're under it. If you press X too early, then you won't hit it but your wand will still go up. You must hit it though. After you hit the banner, make sure you're facing away from the banner that you just hit and make sure that you're still running. You should see the second banner drop in front of you. Do the same to this banner as you did with the first banner. Make sure that you press X right as you pass under it. Keep running and hit the last banner. You will see a crest mounted on the last banner and, once you hit it, it will fall onto the ground where you can pick it up. You will want to hit each banner on the first try, or they may go back up to the ceiling. You need to make sure that you hit the banner while it is still dangling towards the floor. There are two corridors I know of near the Transfiguration Courtyard where you can perform these banner tricks for a crest. Here are directions to them both. First Corridor: First find the painting that leads to the grand staircase. Notice that it is on one side of what looks like a tower structure. Go to the opposite side of the tower and find a door. Go through the door and walk through the following hallway. The hallway will split up into two different hallways. Take a left and head down this new hallway. Go through the door. Now, you will be in the first corridor with the banners. Good luck with getting this crest. By the way, there is a crest mounted on one of the two entrances to this corridor. Check both of them. Also, use the bench found in the corridor to knock the crest down. Second Corridor: Find the same painting and head down the hall that heads away from the tower-like structure. At the end of the hallway, you'll find another door which you should use. You can even just ask nearly headless Nicholas to lead you to the herbology greenhouses. Once you've gone through the door, take a right and head down the new hallway. Keep going and head past what looks like a likeness of a mystical creature. You'll find a banner here. You know what to do from here. Be aware that there are other places that have this banner challenge like the seventh floor.
