Cadillac

FAQ
PSX 1999

Version:        1.0

BASICS
===============================================================================

'Cadillac' is a simple game by a company called 'Hect'. If it sounds familiar
to you that is because there is an almost-identical game on the NES by the
same company. This is an updated version with slightly different rules. There
was also a version on the Game Boy called Square Deal in North America. The
Playstation game was a budget release (1,300 yen in 1999 - you do the math).

The aim of the game is to build combinations of cards to score points in the
playing area. You only have one deck (52 cards plus a joker) per level. Once a
level is over you have a few overturned cards that you will have to blindly add
to the playing area. With each level the cards will drop faster. If you know
Tetris then you should be very familiar with it. If you know Poker then you
might be more familiar with building combinations. It helps to know either of
these, and be good at stack puzzles in general.

Controls:
`````````
Start - Pause the Game
X or /_\ - Freeze (limited time)
O - Cycle through next cards
Down - Speed up dropping of card
Freeze gives you time to look at the playing field and plan your move. You have
limited time to do this. Using the Pause function will turn over all cards but
gives you infinite time to plan what you remember of the playing area.
RULES
===============================================================================
53 cards are dropped onto a 5x5 playing area. Your job is to combine them to
score points and also keep it clear enough for the next cards. If you ever run
out of space the game is over. You can match up cards vertically, horizontal
and even vertical. Multiple combinations are possibly at the same time and even
result in some bonus points.
Jokers can be used to fill any required space. The game will take over what it
thinks is necessary to make match-ups.
Once a deck has been depleted a special Flash card will drop down. Target one
of the suits and all cards of that color will disappear. This is followed by a
bunch of overturned cards where you do not know what the card will be until it
has dropped down. This appears to be more as the level progress.
With each deck that is depleted the level goes up by 1 and in turn the cards
will drop down the board faster.
In 2-Player your aim is to make the other player fill up the board before you.
To make things harder for the opponent you should try and score good
combinations. A simply 10-point Flush will not do anything but a straight would
result in one overturned card for the opponent. The more points you score with
a combination the more overturned cards are dealt to the other side.
Combinations:
`````````````
Straight - Consecutive cards, such as 2, 3, 4 or Jack, Queen, King. The suit
           does not matter.

Flush - Cards with the same suit together, e.g. 3, 8, Queen of Diamonds

Straight Flush - A Straight and Flush together, e.g. 3, 4, 5 all Hearts

Three Kind - Three cards of the same number, e.g. three 8s

Four Kind - Four of the same numbers in a row.

Royal Straight Flush - Ace, King, King, Queen, Jack and 10 of the same suit and
                       in the consecutive order.

Scoring:
````````
Straight (3) - 100
Straight (4) - 200
Straight (5) - 500
Flush (3) - 10
Flush (4) - 100
Flush (5) - 300
Straight Flush (3) - 500
Straight Flush (4) - 700
Straight Flush (5) - 2000
Three Kind - 300
Four Kind - 1000
Royal Straight Flush - 4000
TIPS & STRATEGIES
===============================================================================
- Use the cycling to your advantage. You can get the more useful card when you
  want it and leave some for later if you want to build special combinations.
  There is no limit on how much you cycle through the cards but for the time it
  takes to drop down on the board.
- If you have a quick glance at the cards and pause, then think about our next
  move does not have a time limit. You can quickly unpause and re-pause if you
  do not consider this cheating.
- Trickier combinations yield higher scores, but actually if you just want to
  get though the game you can do with simple Flushes and Straights to clear the
  area.
- Maybe this is obvious but you can only obtain combinations with more than
  three cards if you fill the gap between those cards last.
