How do I kill the snake in Resident Evil 1.

If I remember correctly...you have to have the acid rounds for the shotgun!
I think you get those in the room that is right outside the snake room.
The one with the candle on the table.
You light it with lighter and then you move the cabinet away from the door and then you go in and it is in a drawer in that room.
Make sure you really aim to hit the snake and don't freak out. I used tons of ammo just cause I tend to freak a lot =)

If you are quick enough you can actually grab the moon thingy and leg it without killing the snake.
If you run around it, it has to turn before it can follow.
Only played the game through once so only had to do that once but I hit it a few times and managed to escape without killing it.

You have to get either the bazooka while being Jill or get the shotgun while being chris. Then get the acid rounds like the other guy told you to, and shoot it with all of them in the head that should make it run away. Plus if you need them there are shotgun shells in the room where you fight the snake.
