Have you gone through the Valkry's castle and gotten the Axe?
The Axe will take off about 10% of the Red Dragon's life metre,and you can get the axe multiple times.
Hope my advice helps
Like this guy said, get the ice axe, but don't be misled, the ice axe can be gotten any ammount of times, but it will only be used once per boss trip.
