Your Sims can now dive into spending time on their favourite hobbies and focus their lives on furfilling their lifetime aspirations. Prepare to spend time discovering what your Sims really enjoy doing and helping them pursue their interests. Have your Sims explore their inner selves and find out what activities inspire them. Whether it's working on their car or collecting their favourite bugs, there's plenty to do to keep them preoccupied. Welcome to FreeTime!" Welcome to my 31st guide, and the 15th on the Sims 2 for PC. This guide will be about the FreeTime expansion pack, that does actually add quite a lot to the game. I'll tick off some of the additions right now. * 5 New Careers + Rewards * 100+ New Items * Career Chance Cards * 10 New Hobbies * Chance Cards involving Hobbies * Bug Collecting * Lifetime Aspiration Points * Custom Radio Stations * The Genie * AND MORE... And without much further ado, I present the FreeTime guide. And just to make sure you have the right game, it comes in a DVD CD, not a regular CD, which comes with rich Simming goodness, bursting from the seams. And if anyone from EA reads this, I'm extremely ticked off at your stupidity for making this the most glitchy game ever. It is extremely hard to write about things that are crashing left, right and centre. Thanks for putting money ahead of product. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [1.02] Version History Version 0.0 [29/2/08] Template done. Well, it is now complete and have fun reading. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [2.01] Hobbies Hobbies are the main addition to The Sims 2 - FreeTime. This is an addition of 10 different hobbies that your Sims can pursue, ranging from eating the fine food of Cuisine to the fat-burning Sports. Like your skill point, there are essentially 10 points in each hobbies, and as you progress, the more you can do in relation to that hobby. For example, while you only have initial interest in your hobby, you can only blog about it, and discuss with friends, while as you gain more interest, you can go jogging or serve food platters, whatever happens depends on your hobby. However, the points are not like skill points or badges, they do not stay forever, and to my knowledge, no cheat will allow that either. You need to maintain the hobby interest if you want max hobbies. I will admit that it will be a hard feat to do, and in the interests of writing this guide, I uses many Sims to drag out the info, because 1 Sim cannot do all that at once, the hobby enthusiasm drops very quickly just like it can rise quickly. Over your gaming, your Sims, with Free Will or not, will have activities that will boost their natural enthusiasm in a hobby. Cooking is essential to survival, and this will boost your interest in Cuisine, whether you like it or not. --==Natural Talents==-- For some Sims, interest in a particular activity will develop their enthusiasm in that hobby faster. This is denoted when you have your little Sims perform an activity that will increase enthusiasm in a certain hobby. If a speech bubble appears that says that they liked the activity, that means they will have a natural talent to this specific hobby. This is also outlined on the hobbies panel. This is accessed under the personality section of the Sim's Panel and will be found under the kite, which will mean hobbies. A sliver glow around a certain hobby will mean that they have a natural talent there. What is a natural talent and what does it do? Well, a natural talent means that with Free Will on, they will automatically perform activities that will increase their enthusiasm in that specific hobby that they have a natural talent in. They will also gain their enthusiasm in their natural hobbies at a quicker rate that those who are merely interested. If you don't see any silver glow around any hobbies, have your Sim perform an activity that will involve enthusiasm in that hobby. Try all of it and look again, because unless they have no natural talents, it will be there. But don't let the Natural Talents stop you from other hobbies, you can easily disregard your natural talents and go for something else altogether. It is up to you, because in this game, you are God. --==Notes on Hobbies==-- When you read below, you will find that Mannerisms will mean what your Sims will do when they are not doing anything. Each hobby will have a skill that will boost it, whether it is mentioned in the game's script or not and I will not the day that the magazine will arrive in your front lawn. Also, with the Interests that can be found in the Sims Bio, hobbies will increase the interest in each of the Interests. The personality of your Sim will also determine the rate it is learnt and I shall list the ones that will help the most. The Career listed is the one best suited for your Sims as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [2.02] Cuisine "Cuisine Sims enjoy creating and savouring food, as well as pitting their creations against a Food Judge's palate. Anyway, lets go through the benefits of the skill levels in Cuisine. Mannerisms : Rub your Tummy Personality : Neat, Lazy Skills Based On : Cooking Titles (2-4) : Tasty Appetizer (5-7) : Talented Palate (8-9) : Delicious Dish (1 0) : Master Chef Magazine Arrives : Friday Interests : Food Career : Culinary --==Benefits==-- At Enthusiasm Level 1: Talk About Cuisine At this skill level, you can talk to other Sims about Cuisine, and this will allow them to create an interest about Cuisine in other Sims. This is done by click on the Sim you wish to talk to and select "Talk About Hobby" and then select the hobby. If both Sims equally enjoy the same hobby, it will build up their relationship faster than normal talking as well. At Enthusiasm Level 2: Read Food and Dining Section At this skill level, you are able to use the newspaper and read the food and dining section in the newspaper. This will allow you to gain more anthusiasm in Cuisine in general. It will increase your Enthusiasm rather quickly and it will also boost your Fun meter, because it is fun to read about what you enjoy most. At Enthusiasm Level 3: Serve Chips Platter This allows your Sim to entertain guests by serving a Chips platter from the fridge. This is done by clicking the fridge, "Serve Platter" and selecting the Chips option from it. This is like another group meal, there are 5 serves per platter. A great party entertainer, no prepartion time is needed. It was like those chips were just there. My only problem is that the chips were in the fridge. Who will eat cold chips? At Enthusiasm Level 4: Browse Web About Cuisine At this specific skill level, you are able to use any computer and surf the internet about the big world of Cuisine. This will further increase your enthusiasm in the world of Cuisine. At Enthusiasm Level 5: Serve Cheese Platter This allows your Sims to further entertain your guests by serving a Cheese platter from your fridge. This is done the same way as the Chips platter, select the fridge, serve platter and select the cheese option. Another party option, it is quick to do this, no time is needed to make this. Another gripe is that the biscuits were in the fridge, people don't eat cold biscults. At Enthusiasm Level 6: Share Hobby Tips About Cuisine At this level, you can share hobby tips about the art of cuisine to other Sims that you deem worthy. This will help increase the enthuiasm gained by the other Sim. At Enthusiasm Level 7: Blog Tips About Cuisine This allows your Sim to further gain more anthusiasm by Blogging about Cuisine on the Internet, which can be done via any computer. This allows a faster anthusiasm gain than browsing the web for news about cuisine. At Enthusiasm Level 8: Serve Appetizer Platter This is the final sort of food platter in which you can serve. Like the Chips and Cheese platters, this is done by selecting the fridge, serve platter and choosing the appetizers option. This is better, because it looks more tasty than the above two. A great party dish, instant and cheap, compared to a pizza. At Enthusiasm Level 9: Instruct in Cuisine You are now eligble to teach other Sims in the art of cuisine. While you wonder around, other Sim, who are not as skilled as you are in the art of Cuisine, can walk up to you and "Ask" for tips on cuisine and they will be instructed. At Enthusiasm Level 10: In the Zone At this level, you are now In the Zone. This is where you can go to community lots and compete to get the Blue Ribbon and a Cash Prize. To enter the cooking contest, you need to create a meal at home and it has to be a group meal. Anyway, get the platter and place it in your inventory, uneaten. You can then head to a community lot where there is a food judging table and you can submit your entry there. To win, this will depend on the food cooked, the more expensive it costs, the higher cooking skill you have, and whether it is cooked or burnt will determine whether you win or not. If you win, you get the prize, you lose, try again. The cash prize is 500 Simoleons if anyone was actually wondering, and the Blue Ribbon makes you feel good. Especially if you beat the Secret Lot's instructor. --==Nectars==-- Nectars are basically a new type of drink. From the base game you had some drinks from the bar, and now you have Nectars. They come in 3 flavours, Grape, Berry and Peach and they will replenish your Hunger and Fun bars at the expense of bladder.
