1. Intro*********************************S1**********************************
Welcome to a guide for the 2001 release of Scrabble for the PC. Everything
that you need to know about this game is in here, so enjoy.

2. Minimum System Requirements*********************************S2************
Operating System: Windows 95/98
Processor : Pentium 133 MHz or higher
Memory : 16 MB RAM
Hard Disk Space : 60 MB Free
CD-ROM Drive : 6x Speed
Video : Windows 95/98 compatible 2 MB SVGA video card*
Sound : Windows 95/98 compatible sound card*
DirectX : DirectX version 6.1 (included) or higher
Modem : 28.8 baud (for Internet play)

*Needs to be compatible with DirectX version 6.1 or higher.

3. Starting Up*********************************S3****************************
When you first pop in that CD, the game will go through the usual video with
the Hasbro logo (the old one, anyways). At that point, you will arrive at the
main menu. From there, you can start a new game, reload an old one, look at
the help menu, customize the options, play the minigames, and exit the
program.

In the next section, I will detail the rules of the game of Scrabble. Those
who already know these rules need not read these, as nothing has changed.

4. Rules of the Game*********************************S4**********************
When you start a new game, the player order is determined by the order the
players were picked (P1 = first player, etc.).

When it becomes your turn, you have four choices. You can play a word on the
board. You must play one or more of your seven tiles. You can play parallel
or crosswords-like to a word, but you can never make a diagonal word or a word
spelled backwards (if it is still a word, it is okay), or a one-letter word.
Any words played must be legal (actual words). You can exchange your tiles,
the button for which is on the bottom-left corner. You can select any of the
seven tiles to switch out. You will earn no points and your turn will end. You
can pass, where you earn no points and exchange no tiles. You can challenge
the previously-played word if you think it is not a word. The rules for that
are below.

Eventually, you'll run out of tiles in whatever they are being kept in. This
means the game is nearing its end. The game will end when one player empties
his/her rack and there are no more in the bag, or when no player can make a
legal move. At that point, everyone's tiles' values are added. The total of
all tiles are ADDED to the person who ended the game's score. Each player's
individual value is subtracted from their score. Whoever has the highest score
wins.

PLAYING A WORD AND SCORING: If you play a word, it is then scored as follows:

Step #1: Add base value of tiles (below).

Step #3: Add any word bonuses, if any.
Step #4: If BINGO (all seven tiles played), add fifty points.

These letter and word bonuses are the colored spaces on the board. The board

* -> Starred space (is double word as well)
2L -> Double letter value space
3L -> Triple letter value space
2W -> Double word score space
3W -> Triple word score space

After the word is scored, you will then take some tiles to replace those you
used, making the total return to seven. If there aren't enough tiles left,
you'll take all that is left. The game will end and be scored as detailed
above.

CHALLENGING: If you believe that a word played is not actually a word, click
the corresponding button to confirm the challenge. If the word(s)
played aren't words, the player takes back his/her tiles. If the
word(s) played are words, the challenger loses his/her turn.

Okay, clear on the rules? Okay, now let's start playing!

5. Starting a New Game*********************************S5********************
From the main menu, click on "Start New Game". If you are in the middle of
another game, you will be forced to quit and its progress will not be saved.

If you have not played this before, you'll have to create a profile for you. I
do not remember if it makes you type your name in from the get-go, or you have
to click "Add New Player" yourself. Either way, do what is needed and type in
the name you wish to use for your profile. Your scores, records, etc., will be
shown through this. Click "Okay" when your profile has been selected.

When it has, you'll see the current players. You'll have to add more players if
you want a competitive game, or click "Play" to start a solo game. If you want
more players, you can add human or AI players. If you want a human player,
click on the corresponding button and choose the profile of the player (or
create the player's profile THEN choose it). Hit "Okay" to add the player. You
can also add AI players by hitting "Add Computer Player". There, you can choose
from one of five preset ranks of Maven (the AI player), or choose your own. The
minimum rank is 600 (novice) and the maximum is 2100 (champion). Hit "Okay"
when ready. If you want to remove a player, hit the button and then the profile
stats of the player. When you have the players set, hit the "Play" to begin the
game, following the rules above.

6. Saving & Loading a Game*********************************S6****************
When in the middle of a game, and you wish to save, click on the "Game Menu"
button on the bottom-left. From there, you will see a button allowing you to
save. I believe you can also save from the main menu, if you go there from the
game menu. You then need to click on the ---NEW FILE--- slot and type in a name
for the file. I don't think you can overwrite any files.

If you want to load an older game, you can click on "Load" from the main menu,
or on "Load Game" from the in-game Game Menu, click on the file you wish to
restart and click "Okay" to start the game once more.

7. The Minigames*********************************S7**************************
From the main menu, you will have to click on "Start Scrabble Minigames". This
will end the current game in progress, if any. You will then to select or
create and select a profile.

game in detail, such as points lost and how to correct those
                 errors.

REVIEW GAME: This will detail each of your moves from a previous game in very
meticulate detail, showing the other potential moves, etc.

TWO-LETTER WORDS: Here, you will see how many two-letter words you can make out
                  of a set of tiles.

PREFIXES: You will make words that contain a prefix, such as "re-" and "de-".

WORD PLACEMENT: You will find the best place to play a certain word in a
                certain situation.

made out of a certain set of tiles.

SUFFIXES: You will make words that contain a suffix, such as "-ed" and "-or".

BEST PLAY: You will be given a set of seven tiles and some words on the board.
You are going to try to make the best play in terms of points that
           can be made.

ANAGRAMS: You are given a set of seven tiles and are going to make every word
          in that rack.
