This is my third FAQ in the making. Ah, the sweet sound of people vomiting, screaming, and the roar of hundreds of people talking at random. Rollercoaster Tycoon is about starting either from scratch or adding onto an existing park. You have an objective to complete, and usually have 1-4 'years' to complete it. Most commonly its 3 years, but you have some 1, 2, and rarely 4 years. I do not believe there is a limit on how long a park goes for now. Each 'year' is not an actually year to us humans. Each year starts at March and ends at October. Why? Winter would make it close and freeze. Each year is around 55 minutes, but it may take longer if you stop and pause (the year pauses, but to you time doesnt) As you learn more and more, you become more wise. This game is almost easy to learn from, and can be really addicting. One thing to note is I have not beat every regular park, and have not started on the Expansion Packs. *==============================================================* *-----1.2 RollerCoaster Trilogy--------------------------------* *==============================================================* Chris Sawyer created all three, while Hasbro Interactive and Atari published them (Atari for the third one). The first Rollercoaster Tycoon came out in 1999 with the two Expansion Packs (Loopy Landscape and Corkscrew Follies) in 2000. RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 came out in 2002. Wacky Worlds is the Expansion Pack which came out in 2003 or so. RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 came out in 2004, had females, and names. *~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~* (--------------------------------------------------------------) : : : : : *2.0 Section 2* : : : : : (--------------------------------------------------------------) *==============================================================* *-----2.1 Beginer's Help---------------------------------------* *==============================================================* Here are a few tips for the beginning places or for beginers in general. Or if you just need help Park Fee Starting off, open your park (if closed) and set the admission to $1. Every time you get the Guests are saying your park fee is cheap, raise it 5 dollars (so it stays on multiples of five). The max it can be though is $100. The more it is, the better your park is value wise. Shops/stalls Its important you have a food area somewhere. I normally put mine somewhere close to the entrance. But if your park is bigger, add more food stalls. Make sure you have some randomly placed around your park! When the Infomation Kiosk is available, build it close to the entrance, and add a few cents more to the umbrella fee. Try to make it at a corner, as they can be accessed from all four ways. Add two to three bathrooms. For the one that is closest to the exit of your park, make it free. Then as they get further away, add 10 cents. Don't let it go over 30 cents, or not as many people will use them. Staff If you are at a place with grass, hire 2-3 handymen to cut the grass. If you can't afford it right now, have one, or wait a year into the scenario. Hire 3-4 handymen to do everything except mowing the grass. ** After everything is squared away, I keep a Handymen box open for quick help, it can help when you need to get something done fast** Right away hire 2-3 mechanics. Here is a rough guide for mechanics: 1-5 rides - 2 Mechanics 6-8 rides - 4 mechanics 9-12 rides - 7 mechanics 13-14 rides - 9 mechanics 15+ rides - 12 mechanics Then as you add a ride, hire a new mechanic Security Guards keep away those people who litter (for no reason) and the vandals. Hire 2 right away, and for each vandalised item, hire a new guard. Scenery Its important you have litter bins and benches, especially around stalls. For 2-3 squares, put litter bins. The rest benches. For areas without stalls, add them every 7 squares or so. For ride exits, always add benches and one set of litter bins, for those who feel sick. As you progress through the game, you should make a park like area. While you are working on it (This only works on the Expansion Packs), either delete the first path or add a Banner for 'No Entry' but keep in mind Staff ignore this. You should add: Dirt path, either a dead end with drink stall and/or gentle ride, or a turnaround (Guests enter, then take a turn and are directed either out or to the beginning of the dirt path). Add 4 sets of benches, then litter bins throughout the entire place. Add fences. I suggest the fence (thats the name of it) one Flowers, either the full square ones (this next one is EP only) or the smaller ones (1 Square= 4 small ones) so that they only cover half a square, the half closer to the path. Fountians at the start and randomly throughout the area. Choose your favorite view of the park, and clear out trees so you can see the paths. In some places, leave it covered though. Just make sure you don't rid of too many trees! Adding 'park' areas should be done midway through the game. Rides You should have a Roller Coaster closer to the entrance, when you can afford one that is. Be sure to have 2-3 Gentle Rides with 5 or so thrill rides. *==============================================================* *-----2.2 Starting a New Park----------------------------------* *==============================================================* The above section covers much of what you need when starting a new park, but there is more. Starting off, you should open your park and set the price at $1. Then you should hire your staff. Hire 3 handymen, 2 mechanics, and 1 security guard. Slowly add more as you progress though. Now go to the Test Tube, and go to the second tab. Right now, if you do not have the Information Kiosk, make development only Shops/Stalls, and set it to Max Funding. Otherwise for now have it for Thrill Rides, Coasters, and Shops/stalls. You should create paths now (for places like Forest Frontiers). Now that you have staff and paths, you should start to see guests coming. Now you need a main food court area: consists of Drink Stall and 2 or more main food stalls (Like Pizza and Burgers). Add an Ice Cream Stall somewhere too. Have 2-3 bathrooms too! Now go around adding benches and litter bins. Add them everywhere by stalls, but have a good placement of them throughout your park By now, a Shop/stall should of come out. Set the Information Kiosk at the first corner, so it can be accessed from 2+ sides. Now you can do one of two things. If you have around $5K, I suggest you wait until about $9K to be safe. Otherwise start building Thrill Rides. Also, add in a Steel Mini somewhere. To see what you should price them, see the 'Money' Section. If you have only Thrill Rides, you need a Coaster to give way to those who want something more exciting. On rides such as Go Karts and Coasters, bend your Queue so it doesn't go straight. Try not to make it too long!!! If it becomes less popular even with a price drop, shorten the Queue. Set money limits, so you don't fall under a certian amount. I personally try not to go under 4K unless paying off loan. At some point, save money to around $15-20K and pay off all loan or pay it off graudally. As the park grows, don't be scared to add another path route to add more rides. If guests become confused, or say its too crowded consider deleting dead ends(unless stalls at end) or add a new path with rides to ease the crowd from being in one area. If you would like more help further into the scenario, feel free to email me, (contact in the Contact sub section) or some other contact, and put the problem and your park setting and that. *==============================================================* *-----2.3 Scenarios--------------------------------------------* *==============================================================* Here the the scenarios from the original version. I have not unlocked all places. If you see any and know the info for it, or have corrected info, please email me.\ Name* = unlocked to being with After the loan, you see 'Complete' For the original places, its a system of hardness. 1 being cake, 10 being...not cake (hard). Be sure to also set areas such as ride exits, food places, and anywhere you see more then 5 vomits. Mechanics Start - 2 2-5 Rides - 3 6-8 Rides - 5 9-11 Rides - 7 12+ Rides - 9 Then, hire one handymen for every ride you build. If you have a large park of some death coasters (for when they break down), set each mechanic to a specific area, such as 2-3 rides that are close. Include the paths connecting them, the exit, and the ride stations. Security Guard Start - 1 500+ Guests - 2 1000+ Guests - 4 Then, every 150 more guests in your park, hire a new guard. If you see more then four vandalized property in your park within a few minutes, hire a new guard. Entertainers These guys entertain guests.
