                            1. What is Discworld?                         AAA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Discworld is a game based on the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. These
novels all take place in a fantasy setting, which probably doesn't sound all
that interesting to many people, as there are craploads of fantasy novels on
the market. What Discworld completely sets above all those other books is
that it doesn't tell stories of great heroes rescuing some damsel in distress,
but that Pratchett's novels are crammed with irony and humor in general, even
with clever allusions to the real world.
Ok, so now you generally know about the books, but what about the game? There
isn't all that much to say about the game, except for it being a point and
click adventure like Monkey Island, Simon the Sorcerer and such.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=3.1 Act I=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=CC1

-----------------------------
Inside the unseen university:
-----------------------------
Open the wardrobe and pick up the pouch before opening the door and leaving
the room.

Head down the stairs to the arch chancellor's room. Leave after the
conversation.

Further go down the stairs to the closet where you pick up the broom.

Use it in your room to wake up the luggage.

Give the banana inside the luggage to the librarian.

Return to the arch chancellor to show him the book and to be informed about
what you need to find to build a dragon lair detector.

Enter the dining room to the right of the arch chancellor's room and use the
broom on Windle Poons's magic stick in order to obtain it.

Hand over the stick to the arch chancellor. One down, four more to go.

---------------------------
In the university's garden:
---------------------------
Leave the university and ask the apprentice a question to make a frog appear.
Pick it up.

Take the path to the backside of the building where you nab a bag of
fertilizer.

--------------------------
In the Patrician's palace:
--------------------------
The palace is close by on the right.

Talk to either guard, asking him a question. If you have to enter the palace
again, later on, ask the other guard a question.

Open the door in front of the throne and take the small mirror with you.

---------------
In the streets:
---------------
Look for the streets to the right of the palace and enter the toy store.

Grab a pink donkey toy and the string on the counter.

Go along the street and take the painting at the fish merchant with you.

Enter the barber shop and right-click on the hair roller in the lady's hair.

After that, talk to her.

Talk to the barber to make him daydream. Then use pickpocket on his pocket to
obtain the hair roller.

--------------
At the square:
--------------
Head for the square just south of the palace.

Pick up a tomato at the tomato booth.

Talk to the boy to steal the pants of one of the old men.

Throw the tomato at the tax collector and try to pick up a new tomato. This
triggers a worm to crawl on the ground in front of the booth. Put it into the
luggage.

Enter the psychiatrickerist's house, talk to the troll and leave already.

Enter the building again and nab the butterfly net.

---------------
At the stables:
---------------
The stables are at the south end of the city.

Open the sack and get some corn out of it.

-------------
In the alley:
-------------
Go to the small alley south of the square and put the mirror into Rincewind's
inventory.

Step onto the strange panel at the bottom until you are tossed up onto the
roofs.

Go to the tower in the background where you need to put the mirror at the tip
of the flagpole.

Manipulate the mirror to attract the dragon, giving you the dragon's breath.

Return to the roofs and pick up the ladder on the left.

Get back down by clicking on the window near the long ladder.

Use the corn on the heater in the alchemist's house.

Combine the worm with the string (pick up one of them and double-click when
the cursor is on the other one). Now use the worm on the mouse hole at the
right end of the alley to obtain the imp.

-----------------------
Back at the university:
-----------------------
Go to the backside of the building and give the net to Rincewind.

Use the ladder on the window to get up where you can catch the pancake in
midair with the net.

Get back down, enter the university and grab the frying pan in the kitchen.

Bring all required objects to the archancellor.

-------------------
Searching the lair:
-------------------
The lair is at the south eastern end of the city in a barn. You cannot see it
by pointing the cursor at it. Instead you have to walk there to discover it.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=3.2 Act II=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-CC2

-----------------
Back in the barn:
-----------------
Enter the barn again, which is now clearly visible on the map, and pick up
the screwdriver near the dragon.

-----------------
At the city gate:
-----------------
The city gate is in the north east.

Open the crates and pick up the explosives.

------------------
At the university:
------------------
Grab the trash can at the backside of the university.

Pick up the sack of flour in the kitchen.

Talk to the strange guy in the library about the banana at his ear. Give him
all of the dragon's treasure to receive the golden banana.

Take the golden banana to the librarian to access L space.

----------------
L space library:
----------------
Go over to the librarian and wait a few moments until a thief steals the book
about the dragon detector.

Activate the book in the bookshelf to open an exit into L space Ankh-Morpork.

----------------
L space hideout:
----------------
See the thief wearing blue? Wait for him to reach his hideout in the west and
then follow him there.

Manipulate the pipe on the left.

-------------
L space park:
-------------
The park is at the south eastern side of the city.

Use the frog on Rincewind; err, on the drunken Rincewind lying on the bench,
that is.

Now you can catch the butterfly with the net.

---------------
L space street:
---------------
Pick up the pot at the troll's store.

Release the butterfly at the lantern at the corner near the troll's store.

Read the graffiti on the inside of the toilet.

-------------
L space drum:
-------------
The drum is a tavern located just south of the palace.

Talk to the troll and enter the tavern.

Investigate the painting behind the short barbarian. Try to grab the glass
while he looks at the painting.

After you are thrown out, use the ladder on the drum sign to get a drum stick.

--------------------
Back in the present:
--------------------
Use the gong in the university's dining room to make the apprentice who used
to sit in the garden enter the hall.

Use the matches on the left object in the closet. It shows to be a lamp,
allowing you to pick up the bag of starch on the shelf.

Grab a banana in the kitchen.

Pick up the prunes in the garden.

-------------------
At the broken drum:
-------------------
Now it's the broken drum...thx to you. ^^

Talk to the scared guy.

Look at the green bottle behind the bartender and talk to him to get a glass
of that, which explains why you are drunk in L space.

Pick up the empty glass and some matches.

Manipulate the explosives in your luggage to get a single stick of dynamite.

Combine the matches with the single stick of dynamite.

-----------
At the Inn:
-----------
The Inn is in the north, just left of the river.

Enter the door and take the sheet with you.

Also nab the bubble bath in the bathroom.

--------------
In the street:
--------------
There is a new toy in the toy store: Pick up a hogfather doll.

------------
L space Inn:
------------
Use the sheet on Rincewind to dress up like a ghost. Grab the jewelry box.

-------------------
At the broken drum:
-------------------
As you cannot get the gate pass, yet, you will have to return to the scared
guy in the present. Talk to him again.

Also talk to the bartender to receive a tankard.

--------------
In the street:
--------------
Pick up the robe hanging on a line near the toilet.

----------------
L space library:
----------------
Close the hidden entrance, position yourself at the left bookshelf under the
librarian and wait for the thief to steal the book again.

----------------
L space hideout:
----------------
This time, get to the hideout before the thief does and sue the robe on
Rincewind.

Afterwards, when the thief appears at the door, use the glass on the right
pipe to get to know the password.

Use the robe again.

------------
L space Inn:
------------
Grab the jewelry box one more time to obtain the gate pass.

--------------
At the square:
--------------
Enter the psychiatrickerist's house. After talking to the troll you are taken
to the doctor, who will give you two inkblots.

Leave the house and re-enter it. Talk to the maid for a note.

Talk to Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler and choose the mouth-option to receive a
donut.

Hand over the donut to the dunny man at the dunnyking machine.

Talk to the boy on the square.

--------------
On the street:
--------------
Give the note to the barber.

Then use the machine to rip out the gold tooth out of the dunny man's mouth.

-----------------
Outside the city:
-----------------
Show the gate pass to the city gate guards.

Enter the mountains to get a feather and an egg.

Go to the dark woods, enter the house on the right and fill some custard from
the cauldron into your pot.

Head for the edge of the world which is just above the small islands in the
centre of the map.

Pick up the lamp.

Shake the palm tree.

Use the butterfly net on the coconut.

toilet.

Talk to the peasant.

Use the trash can on the fool to make him take a bath.

Enter the bathroom, put the bubble bath into the bath tub and grab the fool's
cap.

---------------
L space shades:
---------------
The shadows are in the south of the city, but note that you have to get there
during the night for now.

Head for the house on the far left of the shadows.

Talk to the right-most lady.

Give her (Sally) the egg, the flour and the coconut to get her underpants.

--------------
On the square:
--------------
Give these pants to the boy to both get a bra and to learn the special hand
greeting.

-------
Shades:
-------
Use the hand shake on the mason to obtain his golden mason.

Combine the ladder and the bra.

This allows you to place the ladder on the far right of the shades to build a
silent bridge over to a small room. Enter it.

Trying to nab the golden key will make the thief turn over. Afterwards use
the feather on him to make him roll back again. Now steal the key.

-------------
In the alley:
-------------
Put the hogfather doll into Rincewind's inventory.

Get up onto the roofs and put the doll into the chimney on the right.

Return to solid ground and enter the alchemist's house.

Place the keg in the fireplace.

Use the string on the keg.

Leave the house and light the fuse hanging out of the pipe with a match to
get the golden brush.

------------
In the barn:
------------
Give all six golden objects to the dragon.

--------------
At the square:
--------------
Talk to Nanny Ogg and ask her a question to get the flying carpet.

Then talk to her again and choose the sarcastic sentence. This causes here to
expect a kiss from you, giving you the time needed to nab the custard book
from the booth.

----------------
L space library:
----------------
Pick up the dragon detector book and combine both books in your inventory to
switch covers.

Put the book with the red cover back into the bookshelf.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-3.3 Act III-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=CC3

--------------
In the street:
--------------

Investigating the hat reveals an infinite supply of rabbits and handkerchiefs
inside the hat.

Also grab the spatula in the kitchen.

--------------
In the shades:
--------------
Talk to Sally.

Use the ladder again on the right house and go there to find a pouch. Open it
and pick up the knife.

Use the spatula on the mural and manipulate the soot in your inventory to get
a simple pile of soot.

--------------
On the square:
--------------
Talk to Dibbler to get a bag of leeches.

Take the leeches out of the bag.

luggage.

This time, really pick up an egg.

Use both the starch and the fertilizer on the snake.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: Argh, if I have to walk down the whole street again to reach the toy store
/ the barber shop, I'm gonna have enough.
A: Ok, not really a question and actually nobody sent this in (How could
anybody? This FAQ hasn't even been posted so far.), but still I thought this
was nice to know: On the map of Ankh-Morpork, the street consists of two
separate parts. If you click on the left part you are heading to the toy
store and if you click on the right part you end up at the barber shop. Saves
quite a bit of time.
Q: Does every object you can pick up serve a purpose?
A: No, some are totally useless, like the pink cow toy and the green dino
puppet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh well, I really love the Discworld novels, for they are funny and cleverly
written. There's always a lot more to them than meets the eye at first.
Unfortunately the game is badly designed, illogical and never near as funny
as a Terry Pratchett novel. Usually you would expect a point and click
adventure to give you something of a hint as what to do next, but here you
only know where you have to end after the next few dozen actions, meaning you
have check out everything and combine just about every object with every
other object. Many puzzles also are downright stupid, so you cannot possibly
think of the solution. In addition sometimes new objects just pop out of
nowhere at places you have already visited. If it wasn't for the sometimes
great humour and for the Discworld setting, I probably couldn't have stood
this game for more than an hour.

I'd appreciate any comments, questions, high scores, critics or whatsoever,
so please mail me at [email protected] if you have anything to tell me (even
misspellings and stuff).

In some other guides I've seen the author implement the following and I
thought "Why not give it a try for your own guides?":

If you really like this guide and you think it helped you or entertained you
a bit or whatsoever and you feel like rewarding me not only by writing a nice
e-mail, feel free to send some money to my paypal account at:

[email protected]

Of course I don't want to make somebody send me money who doesn't really want
to (even if I could, I wouldn't ;) ), but (also of course) I'd appreciate any
contribution.

Thank you very much for reading this guide and hopefully some more of my
stuff on gamefaqs.
