I want a Dog!!!!

So I have sims: unleashed and youre supposed to get a dog..right? Well I have been every where and I can only go to small pet shops and get a .....bird.I have even uninstalled it and installed it...It just DOES'NT work...I'll even get a cat! I just can't get it.
