I do believe you have to cast so many spells and some many charms to get the crystals. There is a way to get them all on a cheat if you want to. If you go to thesims.com, click on community, under that click on fansites and on that page is the Wilkare Fun Sims fansite. Click on their site, and look for hacked on the left side of the page. There is a hack for all the crystals in there. (I had trouble getting these hacks to download into the game. Got Windows Vista and no winzip.) So, I had to hit browse when asked for a path to extract file to. Extracted the files to desktop or put them in computer:downloads, then go there and send them to the desktop from there. To get the zip or unzip files from the desktop to the Sims game, go to Computer, program files, maxis the Sims, and open that file. Don't click on any files in there. Just go to the TOP RIGHT hand corner of your computer screen and click on double page icon next to red X. That will make the screen smaller and movable by clicking somewhere in the blue on the smaller screen and dragging it around. Then, get rid of all other screens behind it so it's just the desktop screen and the Sims files screen, grab the zip or unzipped folder from the desktop and drag it to the Sims downloads file. There. Now the hacks should play in the game. It's the easiest way I know how to get all the crystals. Even if the files are self-unzipping, sometimes they get lost and it's just easier to click browse and send (extract to) desktop or send to computer: downloads (just stick it in there) and go to computer:downloads, and send zip/unzip files to desktop. (If you have no winzip, or have a hard time unzipping files, there are some free downloadable programs for unzipping files on the web. Hope this helps!
