Question for The Sims 3

To start with I am 50 years old. I am new at gaming beyond Facebook games such as Farmville the Chefs games and such. I play Cover Orange and Angry Birds, Temple Run, Plants vs. Zombies and so I'm not completly without skills.
My grandson said he thought I would like the Sims 3 game. I have acsess to Xbox and PC, Kindle Fire, Ipad and of course smartphone. I have a B-Day coming up and so was going to ask for the Sims 3 game. When I went to the store I like the different versions????.
My first question today is what would you suggest I
Start with? I like the pet part but if I need to start with a town and family I will. I will in-doubtedly go all out on this but I'm just not clear on all of it when I was reading the packaging.
The second question would be do you think I should play on PC or Xbox. If I do play on PC will I only be able to play on the PC I loaded the game on I have two different computers in my house all on the same network. Im pretty sure the answer is I can only play that PC but I just don't want to assume.
The third question is if I start on one computer will I be able to reload the game and continue with my game say for instance if I get a laptop further down the line.
Thank You for your suggestions and answers and the time you are taking to do this for me.

As For your first question, You MUST get some form of base game, this can include the singular base games, a special edition of the base game, or a base game with an extra one included (e.g Supernatural).
For The Second question I recommend using whatever you are most used to, I personally prefer the game on PC.
For the Third question if you copy accross ALL the files created by the game and all the save files then yes, you can play it on a different computer (NOTE: This only works for same type of computer, for instance you can't start with PC version then copy to mac.)
Hope This Helps.
