You may want to start baking you cakes and pies before you actually open you business so that the cost of grocerys don't get added to you business expenses it's also a good idea to have three or four refrigerators to save time on have to stop and buy grocerys click many select items and bake until you have a good amount of inventory so that when you get started you don't run out this is a great home business

You need to keep your kitchen and other living areas behind "locked" doors, so only your sim and/or their employees have access to your kitchen. IDK if you need an expansion pack to do that or not. Just click on the door and select "Lock..." then "Allow Household and Employees Only."

It gets easier when you hire staff to be cashier/restocking/sales and leave you to the baking. I'm running a very successful bakery with my sim right now. However, unless you want to sell only wedding cakes, you will have to do a LOT of baking. I find it's easier to use cheat codes like "maxmotives on" like crazy and also take a day off every 2-3 days to build up my inventory.
