Well that depends on the special buildings.
Like for instance: the ion cannon: The ion cannon is used with triggers but isent like a marine where you can tell it to blow something up.
The Ion cannon along with everything else can only be used with triggers.
Ask about certain triggers and I will try to answer.

Well you can't use any of them as some don't even work with triggers.
They are features like trees and stuff to make the game look better.
