Is there any bypass for the barrel race? No matter where I click on the barrels (top,middle,bottom,sides) 10.5 is the fastest the horse will do, so I'm stuck here.

In my experience, it has nothing to do with where you click, but when.
Just keep your cursor at the neck of the horse, and click when you feel a turn would be appropriate. Not to soon, and not to late.
I had to take two rounds with this technique, and I got 9.5 time I needed.
