Final Fantasy Playa

Right... I got this game yesterday, and I downloaded it all into my computer, and started it it. But, when I got to where you had to make a character, it just went black and this box came up and it said "PlayOnline viewer has encounted a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience."

Does anyone know why it's doing that and how I can fix it?

Only thing I can think of is try uninstalling FFXI from your PC (It'll be under Playonline in the Add/Remove list), and reinstall it. When you installed it, did you have any problems with the updates you had to sit through? One other thing, disable any virus or spyware protection you have running while playing/updating. I know from expierence that Norton and PlayOnline do not mesh. Norton kept kicking me out of the game, so I disable it while I'm playing. Just make sure to re-enable it after playing/updating. Hope this helped.
