The simple answer is yes you do, I'm not sure if it is monthly or weekly or whatever, you'll also have to pay if you want new character models.
If you want to move to a different server (if your friends are in a different one you have to pay to move) there are other things too, I would strongly advise looking this up on the internet to find out more before you get started up.

Assuming your paying in U.S. Dollars: $12.95 a month, first month is free, $1 extra for every character beyond the first one and $1 dollar extra if you want tetra master.
I am not sure exactly what tetra master is all I know is it's an online card game. Http://www.eyesonff.com good site.
