What I tend to do on this level is set the scale to each one of the weights listed on the pillars by the town gate (assuming that you already have all 7 weights - if not go out and find them) and then test to see which items in your inventory match said weight. You also should test the toys and books you've collected as some of them will be used to unlock the gate. It's really a matter of trial and error though because with each time I've played the game not every object stays the same weight and I don't think it's the same objects each and every time. But don't stress it, you'll tackle it soon.
