It was borrowed phenomenon seeing as to how the prophets were regarded as "nabi" which originated from Arabia and they also used ecstasy

Israelite prophecy as it is explained by various theories, it's a unique phenomenon. B W Anderson said "the origin of Israelite prophecy availed in obscurity(unclear). As a divinity student I'm of the view that prophecy is a unique feature because the traditional theory says the first prophet was Moses
Guest answered:

Prophecy in Israel may have been copied from the Ancient Near East countries in the sense that the spectators who saw that boy Wen Amon prophesying ecstatically may have copied this from him. Also the dating may support my answer. This story of Wen Amon took place at around 1100BC but prophecy in Israel started at around 1000-900 BC so there are high chances that the Israelites copied this type of prophecy from the ANE countries.

marian tafadzwa nyaruwanga argues that prophecy was a borrowed phenomenon basing on the word"Nabi" which is an akkadian language from Arabia and the Israelites used that term as MESSENGER

Melody Mavudzi articulates that it was uniquely israel due to the sense that israelite prophets received specific calls from Yahweh as a sign of true prophet

it is an overstatement to say that israelite prophets borrowed ecstasy because ecstasy is an experience of being seized by a deity and it cannot be borrowed

Even Abraham might have borrowed the phenomenon from the Caananites where God once told him to dwell for sometime . Prophecy also existed in Caanan,Asia Minor ,Pheonicia and Mesopotamia
Guest answered:

Since this theory is controversial,LINT-BLOAM states that no on e knows when prophecy stared for it had been a world-wild phenomenom. He sited that if we are to say it originated with kingship we will be mislading ourselves since it also existed in th ancient near east

i think that prophecy originated with moses in the wilderness
Guest said: 11th Jul 2016 | REPORT
i believe that prophecy originated with Moses as since without Moses the Israelites would not have been released from Egyptian bondage. this means Moses began prophecy as the first prophet to be called by Yahweh to suffer for him...however not doubting Abraham being labelled a prophet in Gen20

prophecy did not originated among the israelite it was copied from other nations
Guest answered:

Prophecy in ancient Israel was unique in the sense that it is believed t[i]o have evolved from the office of a seer .This is supported by 1 Samuel 9:9 ,therefore it will be wrong to say prophecy was borrowed when it originated in Israel

Abraham was not practising prophecy in real sense but rather a diplomatic deal so the argument that Moses is the founder of prophecy is convincing since a prophet is a mouth piece of Yahweh. according to duet18 vs 18 Moses is ponted out as the prototype of all prophets as such it originated in lsrael because for one to be a prophet in lsrael he had to possess the so called mosaic qualities
2nd ecstasy cannot be borrowed
Guest said: 7th Jul 2017 | REPORT
absolutely correct
Bright Mugano answered:

It may be concluded that nothing can be known about where, who and when prophecy started because in the basic text which we use (bible) it does not state thatMoses, Samuel or Abraham is the first prophet. On the issue of being borrowed from ANE it is a debatable issue because one can argue that similarities does not mean Israel borrowed the concerpt N.B Some features can not be borrowed e.g. Ecstacy is elf experience that one can not borrow for example in ! Samuel 10:10 Saul was not a prophet but he became ecstatic showing that ecstacy is contagious. Finaly it can be said prophecy in Israel and ANE grew side by side

not realy
Guest said: 5th Jul 2018 | REPORT
as for me i ague that prophets originated in isreal because isreal prophets fight for monotheism again they are believed to receive a call
Guest answered:

I think prophecy originated with Moses ,Samuel only perpetuated what was started by Moses. The defination of a prophet brought forward by Lindblorm accommodates Abraham and others but the fact that Moses was the founder of prophecy sounds convincing .,he founded the sinaic covenant which acted as a binding factor between Yahweh and his ,he was undoubtedly a monotheist and denounced the worship of Baal ,Moses became a figure which symbolised all the ancient isralite prophets hence it can be noted that no messenger before after embodied such characteristics .

give us clear evidence shekyie student
Guest answered:

Prophecy in Israel was unique as most of the prophets received a special call from Yahweh ie call of Samuel. Unique phenomenon come as these prophets practised monotheism (the worship of one God) whereas those in ANE practised polytheism

Guest answered:

Schoolars had battled much on the origin of prophecy in Israel. However it can be noted that this was a unique feature of the Israel religion if one looks at the Abrahimic theory,Mosiac theory, only to mention but a few.

To begin with, prohecy in Israel was a unique feature of the religion that rose among the Israelites. This can be extraordinary from the covenant which Yahweh made with Abraham.Yahweh proved to Abraham that he was the God of promises through the so called" covenant".This became the most common feature of the religion that Yahweh worked through covenants ,thus prophets rose as covenant mediators.Moses,Elijah and other later prophets acted as covenant mediators. Therefore prophecy in Israel was unique.
