Question for Command and Conquer: Generals Zero Hour

Okay, I'm sure you've heard this a decillion times already, but it's really driving me up the wall.
Every time I try to play online, I click on Multiplayer and click on Online. A message appears "Checking for updates..." No problem there.

Then I get to the part where you have to login or create a new account. Every time I try to do either, I get the message "Could not connect to C&C Generals Zero hour Online"!
Oddly enough, when I check my Gamespy account, the profiles I tried to create are there. Can anyone help me? and get

Make sure your firewall isn't blocking Generals from going online. I really don't know what else could be causing this so if that doesn't help you PM me and I'll get back to you.
