It's simple. All you have to do is kill as many enemy units as possible. In the bottom right corner of your screen when you are playing the game there will be a tab that has three stars on it. Click on that and it will show you how many stars you have and what you can do with them. Once you get to 5 stars then you cant be promoted anymore.

Kill enemies. The more you kill the faster you get promoted.

You just need to complete objectives or kill enemies (in campain mode).

Just kill more enemies (in skermish mode).

Do a 3 on 1 Skirmish on a big map, (I did about 10 games on the 8 player maps with 3 on 1 The enemy were on easy but three on one is still pretty hard..) all GLA, they are weak armored but I liked taking out the GLA holes.. :D and I also have been doing GLA on Hard, but I just don't like being SCUDed... So I ended up switching from China to GLA so that my buildings could last, so the bugger goes and takes out some of my defending armor..:D that I scattered afterwards so it wouldn't keep gettin damaged..
