While there is no way to save durin the pause menu it saves automatically
Sorry but no.
The first in the series, which can be gotten for free via the main menu, did have a manual save and multiple save slots. This feature was severely needed as you could gain weapons and solve puzzles but it would not save after each. This meant that you did not save manually you would start at the beggining of a chapter or puzzle everytime you died.
Madness Returns features an updated autosave feature and much more linear game play. The puzzles you solve are no longer running throughout a whole entire maze just to pull 3 obscurely hidden switches to open a gate. These puzzles are far easier and can be easily done without dying, or if you do die, you just have to battle for that puzzle piece again rather than start the puzzle over or chapter over again.
