The poem is about Ten Little Indians, and the island is the setting for the plot of the story. The name of the island hints at the beginning of the book about what is to become of the guests staying there.

It is called IndIan Island, because that's what the poem in the stort suggests

Mr. Blore thinks in the beginning of the novel - "Indian  Island.  He  remembered  Indian  Island  as  a  boy...  Smelly  sort  of  rock covered  with  gulls    stood  about  a  mile  from  the  coast.  It  had  got  it's  name  from it's  resemblance  to  a  man's  head  -  an  American  Indian  profile."
