If by land you need to have a covered wagon on that island, (Not to be confused with the market carts that get stuff for you) to get a cart you need to click on a warehouse or market place and there should be an icon for it by the shut off building materials to the people icon(you'll have to excuse the not exact location it's been a while since I've played) once you get one they only trade tobacco for cloth or alcohol, or spices for the same two. Sometimes they may have gold but that is seldom. Trade with them just like trading with others, go to the chief hut, which should turn the island dark and show up with a trade screen, run your cart up to it, unload what you have(No money changes hands this is free, you get something from them they get something from you.)and load what you want back on the cart. If they are close to the sea you can do the same thing with ships.
