[Lglin] \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ Intro [intro] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ As the title suggests, this is a guide on how to clone pokemon in the Diamond and Pearl versions for the DS. You may use this guide to clone any pokemon you want from Bidoof to Dialga. There are some risks involved, but if you read this guide and follow my instructions as much as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please read the FAQ before e-mailing me. \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ Pre-requisites you must complete before you can clone [prerq] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ Below is a list of what you will need to perform this glitch - At least two pokemon in your party - At least one gym badge to access the Global Trading Station (Henceforth referred to as the GTS) - Some way to get online with your DS (If it's wireless in your house, or you are at a hotspot. Just as long as you can connect to Wi-Fi) That's all you need! Even more good news is that it is an extremely easy gym considering it is a rock-type gym and there are wild machop in the area. Rock type is weak to fighting type if you did not know, so the machop's will dominate the gym. If you chose Turtwig or Piplup as your starter, that makes things even easier since rock is also weak to grass and water. Wow, this is so much easier compared to the Pewter gym in the Red/Blue/Yellow generation. I also highly suggest you have fly if you are later in the game. Simply because if you can't get to Jubilife City, you can't access the GTS, so you can't clone. You get fly in Veilstone City which isn't too far in the game, so if you don't have fly yet, don't worry about it, you will get it soon. \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ How to Clone (Method 1/Hardest Method) [htcl1] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ NOTE: I do not recommend trying to clone legendaries or heavily sought after pokemon. There is a chance you will lose it. Please make sure you are willing to lose the pokemon you are trying to clone. It is risky. Yay! The part you all want to know, how to actually clone the pokemon. To start off with, you'll need to go to Jubilife City and enter the GTS. If the pokemon you want to clone is not in your party, fear not, you can deposit a pokemon into the GTS from your box. I do recommend having the pokemon in your party though, so for the rest of the guide I will assume it is in your party. There is a PC system in the GTS building next to the counter, take out the pokemon you want to clone, and make sure there is at least one empty space or more in your party, since you will need it when you have finished cloning. (You don't really need the empty space since when you withdraw a pokemon from the GTS and there are no spaces in your party, the pokemon goes into your PC instead. I just suggest the space because you'll want both the clone and original pokemon in your party when you're done so you can confirm that the glitch worked.) Now enter the GTS (I know you're sick of seeing those three letters) and talk to the woman at the counter to go online. After connecting to Wi-Fi is done loading deposit the you wish to clone. Please look at the prevention [prevt] section of the guide to see what pokemon you should ask for to lower the risk of losing yours. After you deposit your pokemon, but before the animation starts you will see a little second hand that "ticks" around in a clock-like manner. For the sake of argument we will call each time the second hand moves a "second" and each full circle the hand makes a "minute". Do not actually think I am talking about actual minutes and seconds. There are 8 seconds to a minute, and ON AVERAGE it takes seven minutes to upload your pokemon to the database. The time it takes to upload the pokemon varies with how well your connection is, and how close your DS is to your wireless router. Now, place down your DS on a hard surface and do not move it. I chose a hard surface because it is harder to accidentally move the system as opposed to just holding it in your hands, which do move. Now count how many "minutes" and "seconds" it takes to upload the pokemon. Remember this number as it is an extremely important step in this process, write it down if you must. Without moving the DS, take your pokemon back. You did nothing so far to clone except finding out how long it takes to upload the pokemon to the internet. Still without moving the DS, upload your pokemon again. What you are trying to do is to turn off your DS one second (according to the icon on the bottom right, not one second according to your clock) before the uploading is complete. If you turn the game off it too early or too late it won't work. Remember, do not move the DS until you have a successful clone. Now turn on your game again and a screen will come up telling you that the game is corrupt. Don't worry this is a part of the cloning process and always happens. Nothing bad will happen to your game from this. D/P has a double save feature for such a situation. If the game does not notify you that the game data is corrupt then you know right away that the cloning failed. Anyway, you should be in the GTS building right in front of the desk. Pause and check your party, if the pokemon you were trying to clone is there, then so far so good. If not, then the cloning failed and the pokemon is still in the GTS. Connect to the GTS again to see if your pokemon is still up for trade. If it is, and it is still in your party, retrieve your pokemon from the trade. If not, then try again. Congrats! You have successfully cloned a pokemon! Wouldn't Mewtwo be proud. \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ How to Clone (Method 2./Easiest Method) [htcl2] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ NOTE: I do not recommend trying to clone legendaries or heavily sought after pokemon. There is a chance you will lose it. Please make sure you are willing to lose the pokemon you are trying to clone. It is risky. There is a second method to cloning that is even easier then the previous one I explained in the previous section. Thank you Cujo for telling me this. I will write this part of the guide from my own experience using it. It truly is the easiest way to do this. First off, go to the wireless router in your house (Or wherever you are). Now look at the lights on it. See one labeled WLAN that doesn't blink or anything? That's the light your going to be staring at for the next few minutes. Hey, don't be complaining, at least it isn't that little clock on your screen that makes you dizzy (Or the sun. Heaven forbid I ever see the sun again...). If you do not have that WLAN light, then I am afraid that you cannot use this method of the glitch and must use method one. Sorry. Note: Yes, I am aware that I copied the next two paragraphs from the above section. I'm lazy, okay? XD To start off with, you'll need to go to Jubilife City and enter the GTS. After you hit okay and the little timer shows up at the bottom right (As mentioned in method 1) Look to the WLAN light on your router. Take note that when you hit yes, the light flickered a little bit. That was your DS communicating with Nintendo. Now keep staring at that light, it'll be a little bit. When it flickers again, turn off your DS. You have to be quick with it. Extremely quick with it. If you don't turn off the DS the second it begins to flicker the cloning won't work. Now turn on the game and see if the pokemon is in both your party and the GTS. If not, try again. If so, Mewtwo is still proud of you. :P \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ Preventing the pokemon you're cloning from getting traded off [prevt] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ Probably the most important part of this technique is making sure your pokemon doesn't accidentally get traded off. Below are some methods to help you prevent such a tragic mishap. Universal to all methods: - Act fast, hackers love to take the pokemon you are cloning because they have no life. - Also specify a gender in the pokemon you're looking for, that will greatly reduce the chances of losing yours. - Never ask for legendaries. Reason 1: Hackers have millions of them and can easily give one up for your pokemon. Reason 2: It's annoying to see so many people asking for Palkia when they are offering crap. Method 0: Most Secure, lowest risk (Unconfirmed) This is method 0 because I myself have not confirmed this. I have been told by quite a few people that nintendo does not allow you to trade away a level 40 or lower Palkia or Dialga. I have heard reports of people that have tried to trade away hacked Dialgas and Palkias at level 9 and lower, but were unable to because Nintendo had a block against it. I myself have not confirmed it, but you should be able to safely ask for a level 9 or lower Palkia/Dialga without any risk of losing your pokemon. Method 1: Most secure, highest risk The most secure pokemon for you to ask for is a pokemon of a level impossible to achieve. Certain pokemon evolve at a certain level, right? Such as Piplup at level 16, right? Well, it is impossible for that evolution to exist at a lower level without hacking the game. So ask for a level 9 or lower Prinplup or some other impossible leveled pokemon like that. It is impossible to have certain evolutions at such a low level. The reason for the high risk is, if a hacker does decide to hack and make the trade, you lose the pokemon you wanted to clone AND you get a crappy low level piece of... um... crap. Method 2: Semi-secure, semi-risk This method is not as secure for you as Method 1, but it has a lower risk. Basically, ask for a level 100 pokemon that would have evolved long before that, such as Bidoof. No one should have one, as most people let their pokemon evolve when they hit the appropriate level. This also has a lower risk as the above method because if your pokemon does get accidentally traded away, you now have a level 100 pokemon. Method 3: Least secure, least risk This is the least secure method because you are asking for a reasonable pokemon, but it has the least risk because you are asking for a better version of yours. For instance, if you are cloning a level 52 Houndoom, ask for a level 100 Houndoom. That way if the trade is made, you still have a Houndoom, but at a much higher level. If you're lucky, it may even be EV trained. Those are the three methods I came up with. If you have any more, feel free to e-mail them to me and I will add them if I see fit, and give you the credit. \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ Troubleshooting [tblsh] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ This is to save you from the FAQs if you have a problem. If this still doesn't help, check the FAQ section, and if that still doesn't help, e-mail me and I will reply as soon as possible. And now for the trouble shooting! Easier then duck hunt (Hahaha, get it? Duck hunt? Trouble shooting? You shoot ducks in Duck Hunt? Yeah, I know, that joke sucked) - It didn't work, but I did everything you said. Okay, this is an extremely hard glitch to pull off. I know the ins and outs of it and I still only pull it off 8 to 10 percent of the time. Reason being, the minutes and seconds number can change any second. My internet runs slower if more people in the area, and faster if less people in the area are online. I Suggest not doing this at times in your area when there are a lot of people getting online and signing off. That amount of traffic change messes up the timing to turning off the game. \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ FAQ [faqxx] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ Question: How do I clone in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl? Answer: Okay, I am honestly not kidding. I get this exact e-mail from different people at least 3 times a day and I'm sick of it. This guide works for both versions and I have said that quite a few times in here. Do not ask me how to clone, read the guide. I have also been asked a few times to walk people cloning step by step, I will not do this, just read the guide and don't complain. Question: After I tried cloning it didn't work, but every time I go back into the GTS and connect to Wi-Fi, it says that an error occurred and kicks me out. What happened?! Answer: Honestly, I don't know what happened. That happened to me the first time I tried it. What I did to fix it was turn off my DS, watched TV for a few hours, then came back and tried again. It let me online. Just wait a few hours and try again, it should work out. Question: Sometimes when I deposit a pokemon into the GTS I fail and the pokemon is no longer in my party, but in the GTS. Can I use this cloning trick to clone the pokemon when I withdraw it from the GTS turning the game off at the appropriate time? Answer: I myself have recently tried this, and no you cannot. There is a slight chance it is possible, but I have been unable to do it myself and I am now able to successfully clone almost every time. Question: Can I use this method to clone items? Answer: Yes you can! Just have the pokemon you are cloning hold the item you want cloned, and if you do it right you clone the held item too! Question: I tried cloning, got the blue error screen that said, "Your file is corrupt" but my pokemon didn't clone! It's only in my party/GTS. What happened? Answer: When you try the glitch and get that blue error screen, it doesn't mean that you have correctly or successfully cloned a pokemon. It just means that you turned off the game when it was still saving so there is a chance you cloned the pokemon. But if the blue corruption screen doesn't come up, then you know that you have not cloned the pokemon. Question: Using either method, can you clone the pokemon when you are taking the pokemon out of the GTS? So I can make another clone when I try getting my pokemon out? Answer: I have tried it myself multiple times with no luck, but have cloned depositing the pokemon successfully just before that with no problem. There is a chance that you can, and I just wasn't doing it right, but I doubt it. I will say no to this unless I disprove this by cloning that way. Question: Do you need to have an extra space in your party for the glitch to work? Answer: No, but if you do successfully clone the pokemon and you do not have the room in your party to withdraw the pokemon from the Trading Station, then you have to leave, make room in your party for it, and re-enter taking up a lot of time that you don't need to waste. Also, during that time someone may make the trade and you may lose your clone. (Thank you xmunamaniacx for this suggesting this question) Question: Why can't I move the DS when trying this glitch? Answer: Because, the closer the DS is to the router, the faster the DS is to the router, the faster it connects. The further from the router, the slower it connects. Plain and simple, if you move your DS around, the timing when you need to turn it off will change. Keeping it in one solid spot prevents this variable. Question: I put up my pokemon, counted the minutes and seconds, took it back, put it up again to clone, but the animation started much earlier before it should have? What happened? Answer: One of two things happened. One, you moved the DS closer to the router causing the loading time to shorten. Or two, some people in your area got offline and sped up your connection time due to less traffic. I suggest re-counting and trying again, or waiting until there aren't many people signing on and offline. Question: Which pokemon is the original? The one in my party? Or the one up for trade? Answer: They're both the same. It is a glitch so neither one is the "original". That's how amazing the glitch is. Question: Can Nintendo fix this glitch because it involves the internet? Answer: Honestly, I cannot say. I do not believe they can because the pokemon may be put online, but the pokemon you are cloning is also in the actual cartridge and that part they can't fix. So I strongly do not think they can fix it, but I don't know for sure. I can say that there is an extremely high chance of the glitch getting fixed with the next generation of pokemon though. Question: My WLAN light is blinking and I didn't do anything, why is it doing that? Answer: The WLAN light blinks when a wireless device communicates with it. So there is something else in the house communicating with the router. In most cases it is a laptop computer, or another DS in the house hooking up to the internet. Question: Why'd you write this guide?! Because of YOU, the GTS is ruined and all you can find on there is crap asking for Palkia/Dialga. I hope you're happy with yourself. Answer: Well, to answer your question, I actually wrote this guide to teach people how to clone. I thought that was somewhat obvious. But to the rest of your little rant, that isn't my fault. People have been asking for those two Offering crap pokemon before I even got the game. Don't blame it on me, blame the ignorance of the human race and its inability to see that Palkia/Dialga is more valuable then a Bidoof. Question: Cloning is bad! It isn't a legit way to add to your collection! Answer: Congrats, you have morals. I don't suggest cloning to get further in the game, but to have fun. If you're against it, then don't do it. Question: Shouldn't you capitalize "Pokemon" everytime you write it here? I see it capitalized sometimes, but not others. Answer: Thank you, I get this a lot actually (Hence the question is in the FAQ section. I say no because Pokemon and pokemon are two different things. When I talk about the title of the game, I capitalize it. Pokemon is the name of the game so I believe Pokemon Diamond and Pearl need capitalization. Othertimes I am simply talking about the creature, pokemon. In that case I am simply referring to the creature and not the game title so it stays lower case. That would be like me capitalizing the word animal in a sentance. Question: Can this even work for legendaries?! CAN I LOOSE THE LEGENDARY?!?!?! Answer: Yes, it does work for legendaries. Please note that above I have said any pokemon. Also, you can loose your legendary like you can loose any other pokemon. There will always be that risk. Please read the whole guide before asking the question, I have stated this previously. Question: Is there any other way to clone besides this? Answer: I was not expecting to get asked this so often. To answer this question, no. I wrote the cloning guide to tell you every method that I knew on how to clone. Trust me, if I knew another way then I would put it in the FAQ. Don't worry, I'm not holding out on you guys. =P \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ Disclaimer [discl] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ If you lose your pokemon in a trade while attempting to perform this glitch, I renounce all responsibilities of your action, and all consequences are for you to pay alone. After she told me about it, I tried it out and wrote this guide from my experience. Thank you xmunamaniacx for suggesting a question for the FAQ section (If an empty space is needed in the party or not). Thank you Cujo for teaching me the second method to cloning, it proved to be much easier then my previous method! Thank you Simiswimm for correcting me 33 times in this guide in where I messed up my spelling and grammar. It was a great relief that you have done that for me. ^_^ Thank you The Lady Musical 919 for helping me with further grammar errors. Michael Sarich for the copyright at the bottom of this guide. And me for writing this guide. This sentence is only here so the thank you to myself is longer then the ones above me because I would prefer to the longest credit in here while I worry about adding in this extremely long credit because it seems a tad bit conceited to write such a long and drawn out thank you to myself, but it doesn't quite matter now that I finially finished it and have thanked myself longer then everyone else. Ironically... that previous statement wasn't actually thanking myself, so the actual thanking of me is the shortest in this whole section. \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ / \ \ Contact [cntct] / / \ \------------------------------------------------------------------------------/ My contact is at the top, GoticoLupo (at) gmail (dot) com if you are too lazy to scroll up, so please feel free to e-mail me any grammar and spelling corrections I should make to the guide.
