Until it is completed, UPDATES and completion of this guide will be listed
below, for your convenience. When the FAQ is done, they will be moved to the
Updates section near the bottom of the guide.

THE GUIDE THUS FAR:

3/14/2010: The beginning of the guide, layed out what is to come, what you
           can expect.

3/14/2010: Completed everything up to where you learn how to Catch Pokemon
from your friend, this is before setting out to the FIRST BADGE.
All mini-sections contain information that is found within the
           first chapter.

ABOUT THIS FAQ:

==============================================================================

This is going to be a complete FAQ/WALKTHROUGH of POKEMON: HEARTGOLD/
SOULSILVER. I am aiming to make this an extremely thorough and in-depth FAQ of
the game.

There will even be specific sections (Such as Trainers and even their dialogue
), so stay tuned for those updates.

I hope this FAQ is the sort of thing you are looking for. Updates will come
slower than other FAQs, but that is because of the vast amount of detail that
I will be putting into the FAQ. :) The Table of Contents will show the
upcoming section, but not the ones afterward.

Keep checking back for each update. An update will mean a whole new section
from the contents has been added.

If you have any suggestions/questions/comments, see contact info!

Onward!

WALKTHROUGH [WLK]

==============================================================================

This is the "walkthrough" section, where I will detail where to go, trainers
to battle, Pokemon to catch in the area, etc. Basically, the course of the
story.

It will tell you where to go, who to battle, etc. However, it will not give
specifics, as they are covered in their own sections.

Trainers will be covered in the walkthrough, by name and the Pokemon they have
and the awards with it. For Pokemon, they are covered in the LOCATIONS section
of the FAQ. SHOPS are covered in the LOCATIONS section as well.

Below is a quick reference list:

Use Ctrl + F and find the specific section you may be looking for.

============================ JOHTO JOURNEY [JHT] =============================

***************************** BEGINNINGS [CH1] *******************************

This chapter covers from the starting of the game to learning how to catch
Pokemon.

As soon as you start the game, you will be prompted to learn the controls.
Choose "No Info Needed" to continue.

You will now see Professor Oak, and the background information begins.

Select your Gender. Enter your name. And the game will begin. :)

---------------------------- NEW BARK TOWN [001] -----------------------------

You will start off in your room. Go downstairs and your mother will begin
to talk to you automatically.

You will receive a BAG, TRAINER CARD, the SAVE function, and OPTIONS function.
These are all accessed using the touch screen.

After receiving these items, head outside the door, and see a minor event.

Head west to PROFESSOR ELM's LABORATORY, the building in the top left of the
Town.

Speak to PROFESSOR ELM (top part of the lab), and then proceed to the machine
with three POKEBALLS. Choose your STARTER Pokemon!

After doing so, you will speak to PROFESSOR ELM again. He will then tell you
to go slightly North of CHERRYGROVE, so, let's get going!

You will receive five POTIONS from the AIDE on your way out.

When you get out of the lab, you will run into your friend. She remarks on
the Pokemon you chose, and suggests you see your MOTHER, so let's do that.

Go back to your home, and speak to your MOTHER, she will give you the POKEGEAR

Now leave, and head out NEW BARK TOWN to the west. PROFESSOR ELM will stop you
to give you his phone number, which will be added to the POKEGEAR.

Now head west!

------------------------------- ROUTE 29 [002] -------------------------------

You can encounter Pokemon throughout this Route. Make your way west through
the route, it is a pretty linear path.

Head down and west, through the Tall Grass. It is a good idea to get some
training done for your Pokemon, but you can take short routes through the
Tall Grass if you just want to get through quickly.

When you reach a point where there is an opening in the ledges (with the boy
on the left side who tells you about Tall Grass), go north, then east and
north again through the L shaped tall grass.

There should be a Gatehouse to the north, but just keep going west for now.

There is a boy on a ledge with an APRICORN TREE, but you cannot obtain any
right now as you do not have proper methods to carry it; so, jump off the
ledge going down, and follow the road to the west.

You will enter CHERRYGROVE CITY.

--------------------------- CHERRYGROVE CITY [003] ---------------------------

As soon as you enter, an old man will stop you. He will show you around the
town, and explain the functions of different buildings.

After he shows you his house, you will obtain the RUNNING SHOES! This will
make travelling just a bit faster. :)

Now go to the Pokemon Center, heal up your Pokemon, and then leave the
Pokemon Center to the west, and then leave the city north.

On your way out, the kind old man will give you a TOWN MAP card, which can be
accessed on the POKEGEAR.

Now leave north to ROUTE 30.

------------------------------- ROUTE 30 [004] -------------------------------

Head east and pick up the POTION. Now head north to a house with an APRICORN
TREE next to it. Go inside, and talk to the man to receive the APRICORN BOX,
now you can pick up APRICORNS as you come across them!

Head outside, and pick up the GRN APRICORN, then head east and up the path.

At the top where the tall grass ends, you will notice an item to the left,
examine it to receive an ANTIDOTE.

North there is a fork, but the left side is blocked off by two Pokemon
Trainers having a battle, so head up the east path.

You will eventually come to a dead end, with a house and an APRICORN TREE,
this house is MR. POKEMON's house, the one PROFESSOR ELM wanted us to see.

So pick up the PNK APRICORN, then head into the house.

You will receive the MYSTERY EGG, and your Pokemon will be healed. Then,
PROFESSOR OAK will speak to you, and you will receive the POKEDEX!

Head outside and you will get a call from PROFESSOR ELM. A distress call, it
seems, so let's head back!

Head south, now backtracking where you came from. When you reach the fork,
head to the left instead of the tall grass, then down the path and hop the
ledge if you want to avoid Pokemon.

You will eventually reach CHERRYGROVE CITY again.

--------------------------- CHERRYGROVE CITY [005] ---------------------------

Head to the Pokemon Center to the right to rest up your Pokemon, then prepare
to leave the city east, to Route 029.

You will be interuppted by a boy, who will then challenge you to your first
Pokemon Battle!

PASSERBY BOY (500P)* (If you chose TOTODILE)
 -CHIKORITA LV 5
  -Type: Grass

PASSERBY BOY (500P)* (If you chose CHIKORITA)
 -CYNDAQUIL LV 5
  -Type: Fire

PASSERBY BOY (500P)* (If you chose CYNDAQUIL)
 -TOTODILE LV 5
  -Type: Water

After this, head back to the Pokemon Center, heal up, then head back east out
into Route 029.

------------------------------- ROUTE 29 [006] -------------------------------

Follow the yellow road east to where there is a girl, then hop the southern
ledge and head east to make it back to New Bark Town quickly.

You can make a detour to grab the APRICORN we ran across earlier, but that
can wait if you do not wish to do so.

Head east into New Bark Town.

---------------------------- NEW BARK TOWN [007] -----------------------------

Head to PROFESSOR ELM's LABORATORY. You will be in an event where a Policeman
asks you information (after accusing you...)

You can now name your RIVAL.

You will then give the MYSTERY EGG to PROFESSOR ELM.

He then suggests you take on the GYM CHALLENGE! Well, why not? But first, talk
to your MOTHER.

Head out and back to your house. Speak to your MOTHER, and she will ask if
you want her to save money or not. This is up to you, by doing so, she buys
various items for you on her own, but you obviously don't keep as much prize
money with you.

Afterwards, head out of New Bark Town.

------------------------------- ROUTE 29 [008] -------------------------------

You will run into your friend, who will teach you how to catch Pokemon. After
that, you will receive five POKE BALLs from them.

Now that you can catch Pokemon, I suggest you capture every Pokemon you
encounter to help build your party.

With this now learned, we are all set to begin the GYM CHALLENGE! Head to
CHERRYGROVE CITY to the west, and into Chapter 2 of this Walkthrough.

***************************** FIRST BADGE [CH2] ******************************

This chapter will cover from you learning how to Catch Pokemon all the way to
defeating the first GYM LEADER.

-Will be coming Next Update

TRAINER GUIDE [TRG]

==============================================================================

Below is a TRAINER GUIDE, as in every trainer you face in the game, where they
are, what they say, and their Pokemon.

They are in order of appearence (in terms of how I encountered them), and how
you will during the course of the walkthrough. When it is completed, they will
be organized by locations.

The format will be as follows:

TRAINER NAME (### P)
 -Pokemon Name LV ### (M/F)
  -Type: Type 1/Type 2
 -"Outside Battle Dialogue"
 -"In Battle Dialogue"
 -"In Battle Loss"
 -"Loss Dialogue"

TRAINER NAME: the trainer's type and name.

(###P): the amount of Pokedollars obtained from winning (without amulet
coin or money dealing effects)

Pokemon Name: The Pokemon itself, if there are more than one in the trainer
party, they will be listed together.

Type: The type of Pokemon (Fire, ice, etc.) Multiple types will be noted

"Outside Battle Dialogue": when the trainer first sees you and says a few
things before the battle begins.

"In Battle Dialogue": This is only a few trainers, but sometimes they say
things in the midst of battle.

"In Battle Loss": what the trainer says before giving you a reward.

"Loss Dialogue": is what the trainer says outside the battle after having
been defeated.

Note: Some people are "Event", as in can only be fought once. They also have
extra dialogues at times, they will be noted with a "*"

------------------------------- ROUTE 029 [JR29]------------------------------

There are no Trainers on this Route.

------------------------------- ROUTE 030 [JR30]------------------------------

==============================================================================

LOCATIONS [LCS]

==============================================================================

The city guide will include the city names, what there is there, the items
avaliable in their respective shops, and items/badges/etc. that can be
obtained.

Routes will detail items found in the area, as well as the Pokemon that are
avaliable for capture. There will be details of the Trainers in Routes and
Gyms as well. There will be indications of what versions some things apply to,
but if there is no version indication, that means it applies to all both
HeartGold and SoulSilver.

The section updates as in order of the rest of the story, so any area not
included on the list has not been completed yet, rest assured, they will come.

The format I will be using is listed below:

WHERE: This will be where the city/route is located. I will be using other
city/routes to give an idea where it is.

HOW DO I GET THERE?: How to get there the first time in the playthrough.

WHAT IS THERE?: If there is anything worth noting in the area, it will be
                listed here.

GYM: The Gym and it's details for the cities that include them.

TRAINERS: A list of trainers in the area will be listed here, their name,
type, reward, and Pokemon they hold. As Diamond/Pearl and Platinum
have their differences, they will be in two separate sections. Some
trainers are marked with *, meaning they are either a story event or
only appear at certain times. Rewards are marked with P, which
stands for POKEDOLLAR. The Pokemon moves are listed immediately
below their names. The template below is how I will describe
          trainers:

  NAME (REWARD)
   -POKEMON NAME # LV #

The three below will be put in for special battles, such as Gym
leaders, Elite Four, Rival battles, etc.

    -POKEMON TYPE
-MOVES OF POKEMON [Type + Physical/Special/Status]

For more than one Pokemon, it will simply come after. So below
"MOVES OF POKEMON" for the first one will be the second Pokemon. As
far as "Moves" are concerned, I will not give specific damage and
accuracy amounts. I will only state types of attack. Refer to a
POKEMON MOVES guide for more details on attacks.

For specific Trainer dialogue, see the TRAINERS section of this
          FAQ. [TRG]

POKEMON: The Pokemon that can be caught in the area will be listed here, with
their NATIONAL DEX number (not any other.) Pokemon that are "seen" in
trainer battles but un-catchable will not be noted down on this list.
You can refer to the POKEDEX section for details on Pokemon "seen" in
         places for the first time.

SPECIFICS: This section will be more detailed, referring to the above.

-Any Time: Pokemon that can be found regardless of time of day.
-Morning: Pokemon that can only be found in the Morning [4:00 AM - 9:59 AM]
-Day: Pokemon that can only be found during the Day [10:00 AM - 7:59 AM]
-Night: Pokemon that can only be found during the Night [8:00 PM - 3:59 AM]
-Water: Pokemon found in the water by Surfing/Fishing, method will be listed
         alongside the Pokemon.
-Specials: Pokemon that are found through Swarms/Poke Radar/Dual Slot Mode.
They will be marked on which method is needed to catch them and
            in which game.

When a Pokemon is listed, it is in the following format:

POKEMON NAME <FORME> (RATE) LV # <SPECIFICATION> [VERSION IF SPECIFIC]

Note: "Specification" above applies to whether the Pokemon can only
                be found on special circumstances.

PHONE: If you receive Phone Numbers, they will be listed here

POKEMON CENTER: Any place where your Pokemon can be healed will be listed as a
"Pokemon Center", but I will be specific to say so to avoid
                confusion. :)

SHOP: Any place where you can buy items. If it is an out of city store, it
will be noted. I will list the items avaliable at the store as well.

ITEMS: If there are any items in the area. This includes Key Items, but does
not include Shop items. Shop items are in their own
category. Hidden items will be marked.

EVENTS: If any story events take place in an area, they will be listed here.

WHAT TO DO: This will list any events that go on here. It will tell you what
special items can be acquired, or anything else of interest or
story significance. It may also repeat some of the above steps.
This may be a bit redundant with the EVENTS section at times,
but there will be some differences.

NOTE: If there is anything to note.

The guide is split into different segments. The Cities, routes, and other
areas will be listed in their specific categories.

They are split by Kanto and Johto regions.

These are not in the walkthrough order. Rather, they are in their own certain
orders.

"Cities", or places that have GYMS, are in order of "Pokemon League",
that is, by their GYMS. (This includes the region's elite four)

"Towns" (Cities without GYMS) are in Alphabetical order.

"Routes" are in order of their numbers. These are all places marked by "Route"
in the game.

"Locations" are in Alphabetical order. "Locations" apply to various mountains,
caves, or other non-route/non-city areas that wild Pokemon can usually be
found.

"Areas of Interest" are specific places within Cities/Towns/Routes/Locations
that are covered more in-depth. They are listed in Alphabetical order.

IN ORDER OF APPEARENCE [PX2] : In the course of the walkthrough, any new
Pokemon seen will be listed here. They will be
marked if they can be captured. If not marked,
then they can be "seen", but not "owned."

They may appear twice. One is for CAPTURE, one
is for SEE. This section will be regularly
                               updated as the walkthrough progresses.

You can refer to the list above to find a
Pokemon and it's national dex number.

The number next to the Location is where it is
                               in the WALKTHROUGH section.

CLOSING/CREDITS/CONTACT INFORMATION [CCC]

==============================================================================

This is my first full length Pokemon FAQ. You will have noticed that I am more
of an in-depth FAQ maker if you checked my profile. However, the original
games that these two games (HeartGold and SoulSilver) are based off of were
one of my favorite games of all time, and I felt I should at least pay my
respects this way.

Although I own the Japanese version of the game, I decided I would base the
FAQ off of the US releases, as it would hold more relevancy. :) All names
and other information used are from the US version of the game.

I hope you found this FAQ hopeful, despite the constant updates and time it
will need.

If you find any errors, even as small as a typo, please email me! The address
is shown below.

Please, if you want to use any information in your own guide (or some other
circumstance), please email me. I will gladly accept, but it's nice to ask,
you know? :) I put a lot of hard work into this guide.

And yes, that top logo did take me forever.

Thanks for reading, cheers!

-MKay
