Welcome to yet another FAQ for Monopoly, this one being on the DS release. This
will be my second FAQ for Monopoly, so I hope you enjoy.
2. Rules of Monopoly***********************************M2********************
Before the game begins, you were to choose a piece. This will represent you as
you proceed through the game.
When it comes to be your turn, you can do one of several things. You can roll
the dice and move the number of spaces shown on the dice or you can trade with
another player (human or AI). Note that you cannot trade if you are the very
first player, unless you are dealing out properties before the start. You will
eventually have to roll the dice.
When you land on the space, several things could happen, depending on the space
you've landed on. If it is a property space, you can buy it. (Stats of the
properties are at the end of this section.) If you have landed on Chance or
Community Chest, the game will draw a card for you, detailing the effect of
what needs to happen. If you have landed on Free Parking, you may/may not get
money in the "pot" as it is called, depending on the rules set. If you have
landed on Income Tax or Luxury Tax, you will pay some amount of money. If you
land on the "Go To Jail" space, you'll go to jail. If you land on the space
where the jail is located (not due to the previous, but due to a simple roll
of the dice), nothing will happen. If you land on GO, you will recieve your
salary (or double, depending on the rules). If you rolled doubles (the two
dice are the same number (1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, or 6-6)), you'll roll one
more time. If you roll a third double, you are automatically sent to jail.
When you are buying a property, you can do several things. Firstly, you can
simply buy it for the price on the board. If you cannot afford it, you may
trade with someone before the purchase. You can also put it up for an auction.
This is very much like a normal auction, and everyone is allowed to bid for the
property; highest bidder wins.
You may have noticed the colors near the properties. These denote the color
groups of the properties. If you own all of the properties of a color group,
the rent on each is doubled until you build one house on a property. If at any
time any property in an entirely-owned color group (owned by one person), this
is called a monopoly. You may/may not build entirely on one property at a time.
The cost of a house is on the card. Also, if you trade properties that have any
houses, they are taken away. If you do not want houses, you will get some cash
back (1/2 the value of the house). You can build/sell houses on your turn.
You can also mortgage property. When you do, you get 1/2 the price of the card
into your stack of money. However, all houses must be off of it, and you can
not collect rent on that property. If you want it unmortgaged, you'll need to
pay the amount you got from the mortgage PLUS 10%. You can also trade a
property when it is mortgaged. You can mortgage/unmortgage on your turn.
GETTING OUT OF JAIL: When you land in jail, you can get out by either paying
$50 or trying to roll doubles. If you roll doubles, you get out; if not, you
stay in another turn. If you pay, you are out then and there. If you keep going
for doubles, but don't get any, you'll be forced to pay on your third turn.
THE FREE PARKING POT: At the start, money is put into the pot (if the rule is
active; money depends on settings). All taxes (Income Tax, etc.) may be put
into the pot, depending on the active rules. Whoever lands on Free Parking
will then get that money and the amount put in at the start will be put in
again, if such an amount existed in the first place.
END OF GAME: When you land on a property/etc. and cannot pay the price that
you are supposed to, and cannot get the money via trade, selling buildings, or
mortgaging, you must declare bankruptcy and you lose. If there are two or more
players still left, they will continue play. Once one player remains, he or she
will be declared the winner of that game.

3. Starting a New Game***********************************M3******************
From the main menu, hit "New Game." If you have a saved game, starting a new
game will delete the data for the old game.
In this new menu, tap on the icon that represents a piece to change. Tap on the
box containing "Human", "AI", or "Closed" to change it to something else from
that list. You can set the AI Difficulty (easy, normal, hard) by tapping on
"AI Difficulty".
Tap on "House Rules" to fiddle around with these rules:

AUCTIONS ENABLED: [Yes] No
Effect: Enables/Disables to option to auction off a property.
PROPERTIES AT START: [None] 2 4 All
Effect: Determines how many total properties are dealt out at the start.
LIMITED HOUSES: [Yes] No
Effect: Puts a limit on how many houses there are.
FREE PARKING MONEY: [None] Taxes $250
Effect: Decides how much money is in the pot and how it gets there.
INITIAL MONEY: $1000 [$1500] $2000
Effect: Determines how much money each player begins with.
PASS GO SALARY: None [$200] $400
Effect: How much money do you get for passing and landing on GO?
LAND ON GO SALARY: [Normal] Double
Effect: Do you get the normal salary or double salary for landing on GO?
When you're done fiddling around with these, press the icon on the upper-left
corner of the screen to return to the player select screen.
Whenever you're ready to begin the game, tap the check mark in the upper-right
corner of the screen to start; if you wish to forget it, press the back arrow
in the upper-left corner.
4. Procedure of the Game***********************************M4****************
Immediately after you decide to begin the game, the game will automatically
roll dice for you, deciding who goes in what order based on an order of
largest number to smallest number.
When it becomes your turn, look on the Touch Screen. There are three icons on
the left-hand side. From top to bottom, they roll the dice, trade with another
player, and manage the properties.
You can trade. Simply tap that button to bring up a different menu. Tap on each
token to see who has what. If you want a property, tap on the property you want
to get. This works the same way if you wish to get rid of a property. Tapping
on the money stack will bring up a number pad. Type in the cash amount you want
to get/give. Beside the money stack are the "Get Out of Jail Free" cards. Tap
on them to put them into the trade. Remember, you have to give AND get in a
trade. When you wish to offer the trade, tap the top icon on the left-hand side
of the screen. The offer may/may not be accepted. If so, everything offered by
one person will go to the other. If not, well, deal with it. Press the back
arrow to return to the game.
After rolling the dice, you'll move. To speed it up, keep the stylus on the
Touch Screen. When you land on an unowned property, you'll be shown the deed.
Tap the Touch Screen to continue. There will be five icons on the left-hand
side. From top to bottom, they are: purchase property, start an auction, see
deed, make a trade, and manage property. Purchasing the property will,
obviously, give you the property. Auctioning it will begin an auction. As with
the money in the trade, a number pad will come up. Type in your offer to make
it. The icons on the left here are forfeit the trade and manage property. The
icon to see the deed will, obviously, show the title deed. And you know what
the other two do.
After anything bothering with the property (if any) is finished, three icons
will appear on the left. They are, from top to bottom: end turn, trade, and
manage property. If you wish to trade, build/sell houses, or mortgage and
unmortgage property, do so now. When you wish to continue, hit the end turn
button.
This process will continue until the end of the game, which is when all players
except one have gone bankrupt. I will now cover additional situations.
ROLLING DOUBLES: I mentioned above that after bothering with the space you have
landed on, the "End Turn" icon appears. It is replaced with
the "Roll Dice" button after rolling doubles because you get
to roll again.
IN JAIL: While in jail, an additional icon will appear, allowing you to pay the
$50 fee to exit jail. The others remain the same.
POTENTIAL BANKRUPTCY: When you have to pay a rent greater than the cash you
have, two new icons (resign and auto-sell) will appear.
The first means that you declare bankruptcy and lose. The
second will auto-mortgage properties and sell houses
until you can pay the rent. If you can't get enough even
through that, you are notified.
MANAGING PROPERTY: Firstly, tap on a property. There, you can see the property
deed using the top icon. The second icon will mortgage or
unmortgage it. The third will build/sell houses on it. The
fourth returns you to the game.
5. Multiplayer Modes***********************************M5********************

To use this mode, start a new game. In the game set-up, change character types
from AI/Closed to Human so that additional people can play. Whenever someone's
turn comes, simply pass the DS to them. The rest of the stuff (trades,
auctions, etc.) can be arranged by you.

To use this mode, go to the main menu. If you want to host the game, select
that option. If you aren't the host, hit "Join." The host will be able to
select whether a slot is open for someone of an AI player. You can still set
up the AI Difficulty and house rules. However, I know nothing beyond that, as
we only have one Game Card of this at my home, and I know of no one else with

Game Music : Turns the music on/off.
Music Genre: Changes the music style between Jazz, Smooth, and Swing.
Tutorials : When do you wish to display tutorials?
