Hello, and welcome to my guide. This is my first one. This guide is about
Battle Mode. All the advice here comes from me. Its all good.

WEAPONS!!!!!!!!!! [WPN1]
Heres the lowdown on all the weapons.
Green Shell
The green shell is one of the most important parts of the game, PROTECTION.
You can drag it behind you to deflect red shells. You can launch it forward
and backwards and it will bounce off walls up to 5 times and break, hoping to
hit someone. Makes characters flip in place, slows them down.
Triple Green Shell.
Same as a Green Shell but you can deploy it and 3 shells will spin
around you and protect you from enemies. You can use it like a Green Shell.
mostly for defense. Running into an enemy is like hurling a Green Shell at
them. Blocks Red Shells often.
Red Shell
the red shell is like the Green Shell...BUT has the capability to seek any
enemy in front of you. It will follow them until they hit them. It will break
on contact with walls but it pays off in the long run because they rarely miss.
It will travel along raceways. The only way to avoid a Red Shell is to make
it hit a Shell or Bananna.
Triple red shell
This is my personal favorite. Its like Triple Green Shells, but they are Red
Shells. DO NOT launch them all at once, it is a waste, for the last 2 will
bounce off the enemy doing nothing. Wait until they are done flipping.
Bananna peel
Its basically a bananna peel. You can lay it down or throw it. Its like a
landmine. When the enemy hits it BOOM! But instead of exploding they just spin
out, unfortunately. Dragging these can deflect Red Shells.
Triple Bananna Peel
You deploy it and it makes a chain of 3 Banannas. You can release them one by
one until you're out. Again, these deflect Red Shells.
Fake Item Box
A fake Item Box. You drop it near other ones to fool the enemy(even though they
are easy to spot). It doesnt spin and doesn't have a ? in it. Enemies who are
stupid enough to hit it will flip out,stalling them. It won't protect you from
Red Shells.
Bob-omb
Litte living bombs that you can use like a Bananna Peel, but it will detonate
in 8 seconds or if someone travels too close. Sends enemies flying up.
Mushroom
Use it to give you a burst of speed. Terrain won't affect you while boosting.
One use.
Triple Mushroom
Like a mushroom but it has 3 uses.
Star
Woo.. The Star makes you flash colors and making you faster and invincible and
unaffected by terrain for a short amount of time. Hitting someone while
invincible will cause them to flip out.
Boo
Boo basically makes you invisible, invincible, unaffected by terrain, and it
lets you go through your enemies; then boo will steal someones item; giving it
to you. Lasts for a short amount of time.
Bullet Bill
A Bullet Bill is a giant living bullet. You can turn into it and travel along
the track at high speeds, sending anyone in your path flipping away. Lasts for
a brief moment.
Blue Shell
Ooh man, these things are awesome. Think of it as a blue shell with spikes
combined with a heat-seeking missle. Yeah. It goes for the person in first
place and blows up in their face. It makes a big blue explosion.
Lightning
This makes lightning bolts hit all the other players, slowing them down and
shrinking them. Their speed halves for a short period of time. Eventually they
grow back.
Golden Mushroom
This is the king of Mushrooms. Use it and you will boost. The catch is, after
you use it, you can keep using it for 10 more seconds. So, if you keep tapping
L you will use it over and over and over and over.
Blooper
A pain in the neck. You send it out and it sprays ink on everyone elses
screens.If you are bad at using the Map as a guide, this will most likely drive
you insane.
Droppable Item Box
SPECIAL MULTIPLAYER MODE ONLY ITEM
If you lose a game, and there are more than one player left and at least 1 is a
human player, you become permanent Boo effect until the end of the battle.
You can drive around and stuff. Also every now and then you automatically get a
Droppable Item Box that you can set or throw or drag. Other players can get it
from you. You can use it to help teammates, or Utterly distract foes(see below)
What you do is drag it behind you, and when an enemy goes for it, throw it far
away, if you can, throw it to a teammate or off a cliff or out of bounds.
That covers the weapons. On to the characters.

him. Also he has the worst handling in the game; but he has 100% Weight.

In my opinion, a science expiriment gone wrong. He's half man, half mushroom.

A green dinosaur like thing.

Dry Bones
A Koopa Skeleton. He appears in Super Mario Bros 3.

He has the best Acceleration and Control in the game. He can do some shortcuts
without a mushroom because of his acceleration. Look for these at Sky garden,
Yoshi Circuit, and Delfino Square. My Favorite, and basically the best.

A Brief Explaination of battle mode [BEOB]
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Battle mode consists of two games: Balloon Battle, and Shine runners. You can
play multiplayer with 1-7 more friends/siblings/rivals. Balloon Battle is
played by using items against enemies to destroy all their balloons. Shine
Runners requires you to have the most shines, while time disqualifies enemies
every 30 seconds. Unfortunately battle games cannot be played over nintendo
wifi. It would be cool, though.

Balloon battle [BLNB]
Balloon Battle... Well, you start with 1 balloon and 4 extras. You need to
inflate some more or you will die quickly. Holding [select] will inflate them.
But you can do it faster if you blow into the hole on your DS labeled MIC.
You can use weapons to attack your opponents. When you hit your enemy, they
will lose a balloon. When they are out of balloons, they will be disqualified.
Last player left wins.
EX.
4 players. Theres Yoshi(you), Mario, DK, and Toad. Mario inflates 2 balloons,
toad inflates 1, DK is too forgetful to inflate his. You do it on purpose.
Everyone gets an item box. You get a Mushroom, Mario gets a Bananna, DK gets
a Green Shell, and Toad gets a Red shell. You inflate 2 balloons now. DK
launches his shell off the course like an idiot, then you Mushroom Boost into
him and he flies off the track. He loses. Toad launches a Red shell at Mario,
and he uses his Bananna to deflect it. then mario hits you with a Green Shell
he gets. You lose 1 balloon, then get a Mushroom and boost into Toad, taking a
balloon and knocking him off the edge. He loses 2 balloons from the combo and
loses badly. You then hit mario with a Red Shell, Then he hurts himself with
his own Fake Item Box on accident. Left with one balloon, Mario gets a Star and
hits you twice. You lose 2 balloons. You pick up a Triple Bananna and deploy
it, then you inflate your last 2 balloons. Mario gets a Triple Red Shell and
tries to get you. The first one hit a wall, the second and third one hit 2 of
your Banannas. Then he gets a Mushroom and tries to boost into you. He hits
your last Bananna and Loses.

Theres 2 ways to win...
Offense
You mainly go all out trying to eliminate everyone.
Defensive
You do your best to defend yourself, you stay away from enemies, and strike
when 1 player is left.
Here are my tactics
OFFENSIVE
The Striker
You start by getting away from everyone and wait to get a good weapon. When you
do, you charge into battle and wipe out as many people as you can. A good
beginners technique.
Stealth Bomber
You go to the highest part of the map (if there is one), and lob items off like
Bananas, Fake Item Boxes, Bom-ombs, Green Shells, occasionally Red Shells, and
use Bloopers. Or you can get a boo and while you are invisible, launch out a
Bom-omb or a Red Shell. It will make your friends freak out. Maybe even wet
themselves. (or leave a bit of luggage in the trunk :P)
Good for people who have trouble in the midst of a battle.
Kemakazee
You waltz into battle with 1 balloon. This sounds stupid, but you can get all
the best weapons this way. You get Golden Mushrooms, Bloopers, Triple
Red shells(these can instantly eliminate a player. you launch a shell, and once
they lose their 1st balloon and recover, you launch the second one, leaving
them with one balloon, then you finish them off with the 3rd shell. its so mean
but its fun... Heheheheee....). You get good defense from Triple Green Shells,
Stars, and Boos. for pros like me, and people who are good at leading Red
Shells into walls or deflect them.
The Sitting Duck (idea by Thomas Smyth)
I have made my own method of Battling, i call it 'the sitting duck' the only
place i have known this to work is block fort. Start off by reversing to the
box behind you, then blow up a balloon and make your way to the top of the
fortress's and sit and wait until you see a player going to the top of 1 of
the fortress's attached to the 1 your sitting on, then fire a red shell at
them along the bridge, Then drive off the fortress and onto another 1. This
is a great mode of both offense and defense. TIP: keep a weapon in stock and
keep your map set so you can see other players sneaking up on you.
DEFENSE
Evade, then Obliterate
You stay away from enemies, then when everyone has one balloon left, you beat
the pulp out of them with red shells. Good for newbies.
One at a time
You find hostile enemies (enemies that have no one else around them), and take
them out one by one. It takes a while, but a good hunter wont mind. I like this
one.
Happy Camper
Camping is similar to Stealth Bomber, but instead you find a good corner or
high area, and plant alot of bananas and fake item boxes around it. Smart
enemies will not bug you, but AI (artificial intelligence) don't even see the
barricade and charge right into it(making them Artificial Idiots :P). You need
to make sure there is an item box in your 'Campsite' or it will be hard. If you
jump, then throw your items, you can do it with the Bananas and stuff to make
your campsite harder to penetrate, or lob Bob-ombs out to take people out while
you comfortably stand in 1 spot. A good trick to use to aim is to hold (a) and
(b) at the same time. It allows you to spin in place fast like if you were on
a turret. This is my most effective and favorite technique.
Here are more tricks.
Balloon Theif
You wonder why there are Mushrooms in battle? Hmm, to go faster? NO! Instead,
boosting into an enemy knocks them to the side (like REALLY FAR) and... You
STEAL one of their balloons. If you have no more spare balloons, this can save
your life. Also its fun to have an assortment of different colored balloons,
Because having green balloons all the time will get boring. You have green
balloons if you play against AI in first player, or if you are the host of a
multiplayer game.
PEEKABOO!
This is so mean. You get a Boo and become invisible and get a Star(you can use
a Bob-omb, Banana, or fake item box, but a star is more fun.). Now you get near
an enemy and while you are still invisible, you activate the star and BAM! Its
so much fun.
Mugger
When someone has 2 balloons left, wait for them to get close to the edge of a
cliff. Then Boost into them!(making sure you don't fall off.) They will be
robbed of their 1st balloon, Then they fly off the cliff. When latiku drops
them back onto the playing area, they will lose their last balloon and be
disqualified. Will make other players angry, and is a useful technique for
someone smart enough to re-inflate more balloons, because they can't re-inflate
any.
Smuggler
In the beginning, instead of inflating any balloons, get far away from your
enemies and get item boxes until you get a star or a triple red shell. If you
get the triple red shell first, get a second item after they are deployed.
THEN, inflate your balloons. You will have a really good weapon, without being
on the virge of elimination. I do this ALL the time, so you should try it too.

Shine runners [SHRN]
Shine runners is played by racing to shines and collecting the most, before
someone else gets more than you. Over time the people with low amounts of them
will be disqualified. The last man standing wins. Hitting an enemy with an item
makes them drop a shine if they have one, then you can take it for yourself.
When there are 2 people left, its a 30 second battle to have 5 shines.
EX. There are five contestants. You are Yoshi. You start and pick up 2 shines.
Everyone else does the same, but DK was unfortunate(haha) to get the 9th one.
Since he had 1, he got eliminated(heh, i hate DK). Leaving you and 3 others.
Bowser gets the one DK lost, and you hit Peach with a Red Shell and take a
shine from her. Then Luigi runs into her with a Star and grabs her last one.
Peach is eliminated. You throw a Fake Item Box and it hits Bowser directly.
(this is so hard to do)You take a shine from him. Then Luigi got him with a
green shell since Bowser's acceleration makes it hard for him to speed up.
Luigi takes another shine from Bowser. After Bowser is eliminated, you and
Luigi have to battle for the last shine. Luigi grabs it, then you get him with
a Bananna Peel. You grab the shine, then you get a Red Shell. Luigi uses Boo to
turn invisible and steal your shell. He uses it on you, and takes your shine.
Then you run into him with a star. You grab the shine, and Luigi loses.
YOU WIN!
So basically you need the most shines. There are 9 per match, so if you grab
five, no one can stop you unless they get one from you. If you are able to
get all 9, everyone else will be eliminated at the same time after at a max of
30 seconds.

Here are brief descriptions of all the maps, and techniques that work on them.
NOTE: the Balloon Thief, Mugger*, Smuggler and the PEEKABOO! technique work on
all maps.
*Has to have out of bounds area(DS, Palm Shore, Twilight House)
Nintendo DS
This is a giant model of a Platinum Nintendo DS. It has the Exact features of
the DS, all the lines, you can read the letters or words on the buttons, you
can see the power light and the recharging light(I haven't seen it on yet).
You can go on top of the screen. Theres a slanted top part of a DS. You can see
the holes that you hear the sound effects from. If you look at the screens,
you can see Pictures.

The Power light on the DS stage DOES NOT change to red when your power is low.
(confirmed by me)
Twilight House
A big house with 9 chambers, and an outside path with a drop-off point.
A very fun level. I reccomend NOT to use red shells unless you can see your
enemy. Use green shells inside.

One at a time
Palm Shore
A big Island with an oasis with another island in it. The water level will rise
and fall from the tide. The water slows you down. A great technique is to wait
for someone to be in the water, then since they are moving slow, you can lob a
green shell at them and will most likely hit them if you aim right.

Evade, then Obliterate
One at a time
Tart Top
A big Tart thing that you can drive on. Its a round dome with a rounded launch
ramp in the middle. The item boxes are in midair, and the launch ramp leads to
them.

Block Fort
A big area with 4 colored fortresses. Each fortress has 2 levels, and they all
are connected by bridges. This is a great level.

One at a time
The Sitting Duck
Pipe Plaza
A plaza with an upper section and(you guessed it) 4 pipes. Entering the pipe
will warp you to another. A good and mean trick is to go in the pipe and put a
Banana where you land. Anyone who takes the pipe up will be forced to hit it.
Entering a pipe can also save you from Red Shells.

here are some good tips for the game.
You want a quick, high accelerated character if you want to be the best. I
Reccomend Yoshi, Toad, luigi, or Dry Bones.
But luigi is the best all around character in my opinion, because his top speed
and acceleration are both about 60.
(for these, you have one or the other, unless you are luigi)
If you have high acceleration, you can dodge incoming items with ease.
Pros:You can maneuver well, and speed up fast if you get hit.
Cons:People with higher top speed than you will beat you to shines sometimes.
If you have High top speed, you will be the first to shines.
Pros:Very fast.
Cons:If you get hit by something, you will take a while to get back to high
speed. Makes you a big target for balloon stealing in battle mode
So High ACC is good for battle, while high SPD is good for shine runners.

Here are some FAQs. Some are made up by me. If you want to ask me a question,

Q: How do I play Battle Mode online?
A: Unfortunately there isn't Online battle, only single player and multiplayer.
Q: Who is the best character for battle mode?
A: There is no Absolute Best Character, but I use Yoshi or Dry Bones because
they are fast and agile.

Multiplayer [MTPR]

This is the deal on multiplayer.
You can play with up to 8 people at a time wirelessly, but the thing that
separates multiplayer from WIFI, is that you don't need internet connection,
but you all need to be within 30 feet of each other. yet for some reason,
pictochat reaches over 100 feet.
Well you can have a host and 7 other players. you have the host set up the
game. After that you duke it out against each other. This is the only time you
can have balloons in Balloon Battle that aren't green. the host gets green.
If you lose a game, and there are more than one player left, you become
permanent Boo effect until the end of the battle. You can drive around and
stuff. Also every now and then you automatically get a Droppable Item Box that
you can set or throw or drag. Other players can get it. You can use it to help
teammates.
