Version 5.5: Gayruu Kyouya and Kagerou Urafushi's names have

Welcome to the Gyakuten Saiban 4 Walkthrough. Gyakuten Saiban 4 is the
4th game in Capcom's Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney series. The game was
released on April 12, 2007 in Japan and has been one of the most anticipated
titles on the Nintendo DS. Hopefully in the future, Capcom will localize this
game in America under their Ace Attorney series. Since Phoenix Wright is no
longer the main character in this game, the game focuses on a new hero,
Apollo Justice/Odoroki Housuke.

While this guide can be used by anyone, this guide is meant to be for the people
who imported the game and do not know much japanese. So this is more of a 
bare bones walkthrough without much spoilers since I don't know much japanese. 
However, there will be some spoilers so be sure to watch out for those. 
This guide will help non-japanese readers be able to get through the 
game with precise instructions.

skilled defense attorney. Has long hair, glasses, and dresses in a 
light purple suit


Phoenix Wright/Naruhodo Ryuuichi (Age: 33)

The former hero of the first 3 Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney games.
In the 7 years between parts 3 and 4, Phoenix stopped being a lawyer
and now is a pianist at "Borscht", a Russian restaurant. He now wears a
blue beanie and a grey jacket.


Ema Skye/Akane Houdzuki (Age: 25)

Phoenix Wright's former perky assistant from case 5 of Phoenix Wright:
Ace Attorney, now grown up and working as a detective. Wears a white

4. Case 1: Turnabout Trump

Intro: 7 years have passed since the events of Phoenix Wright: 
Trials and Tributlations. A lone artist is painting a picture in 
his studio. He signs the painting and blows out the candle that was
providing light in the room. The scene changes to 2 men playing
poker in an underground room. As one of the players loses, the other
takes a bottle and hits him over the head with it, instantly killing
him. The presumed defendant makes a phone call to an old friend 
telling him what happened as the police arrive.

The next day, newly appointed defense lawyer Apollo Justice is
nervous about his first trial. After meeting with his mentor,
Kristoph Gavin, Apollo is introduced to his client, a relaxed man
with a blue beanie and a gray jacket. As the trial begins, this
man is revealed to be the legendary defense attorney himself,
Phoenix Wright. Can Apollo prove the innocence of the once
legendary defense attorney?

You receive Phoenix's cell, a picture of Smith and Phoenix, 
and a picture of the cards and chips. Make sure you examine 
each of them in detail. Sakai Masaka is introduced as a
witness

his head in black and white (Photo 2).

5. Case 2: Turnabout Street Corners

Intro: A person is pulling a wagon during the night at a park, only 
to be confronted by a man with a gun. While Phoenix was out taking 
a walk, he is suddenly hit by a car and at the same time, a young woman 
chases after something. Gun shots are heard from the park as the camera
zooms out. A gang member named Kitaki Takita is presumed responsible for
the shooting. With Phoenix injured, stolen panties, and a gun shot at
the park, how will Apollo find the connection between them all and
prove Takita's innocence?

Case 3: Turnabout Serenade

Intro: Apollo and Trucy are invited to one of
Klavier Gavin's "Garyuu Wave" concerts. After the
concert is over, gunshots are heard as Romein Retasu,
who is a manager is found dying. The defendant
is Maki Tobayu, the young 14 year old pianist of the
band. Can Apollo prove this young boy's innocence?

He's a big man with a beard and in a suit and this is his
first visit to the country. His name is a pun on Romaine Lettuce.

A guest singer who sings a duet in the concert. She has brown
hair and is dressed in a blue cloak. However, there is much
more to her than it seems..


Maki Tobayu (Age: 14)

The young defendant in the case who is the band's pianist.
He is a small boy with blonde hair, sunglasses, and a
white outfit. He speaks in weird characters, since he
is from a foriegn country. He is also blind.


Mayudsuki Daian (Age: 24)

One of the guitarists in the Garyuu Wave band who is also a
detective. He has a dark blue jacket that looks like a shark's 
head and has REALLY long hair. He likes to point and 
laugh at people.

FAQ

Q: Does the game have an english option like 
Gyakuten Saiban 1 and 2 on the DS?

A: No, since GS1-3 were originally GBA games and have already
been played to death by japanese players, Capcom added in the
english versions of the games to have more of an incentive for
japanese players to buy them and improve on their english
skills. GS4 was built ground up for the DS with no plans for
a localization until the future. However, there are small
amounts of english in the game due to Kyouya being a singer
and how the japanese love to put english lyrics in their
songs.

There might be a chance that the "Best Price" version of
Gyakuten Saiban 4 may have the english option once the
localization is done. There are no guarantees about this
however.


Q: Who are the returning characters from the original series?
Does "Insert old character name here" return?

A: Phoenix Wright, Winston Payne, Ema Skye, The Judge, Dick Gumshoe,
Mike Meekins, and Director Hotti. Sorry, other than those names,
these are the only returning characters.


Q: When will the game be out in America? What will it be called?

A: It has been confirmed by Nintendo France that it will be called
"Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney". No details have been given on
the release date.


Q: When the US version comes out, will this guide be changed
to reflect the changes in it?

A: If I still have interest in updating the guide by the time
the US version comes out, I will. Right now this guide is based
on the japanese version.


Q: Why did Phoenix stop being a lawyer?

A: I've been getting this question alot so now all of your
questions will finally be answered!

Short Explanation: 2 months after the last case in Trials and
Tribulations, Phoenix was involved in a case where he presented
forged evidence to the court and got his laywer badge taken away
from him. 

Long Explanation: 2 months after the last case in Trials and 
Tribulations, a famous magician named Kagerou Nanfushi, aka
Zack Arumajiki was accused of murdering his mentor Arumajiki Tensai.
Rookie lawyer Kristoph Gavin wanted to make name for himself by
winning a big case by defending Kagerou Nanafushi. Kristoph even
planned out a way to secure his acquital by forging evidence. Nanafushi 
took pride in his ability to read people because he was magician. So he
challenged Kristoph to a game of poker. Kristoph lost and Nanfushi 
decided to take Phoenix Wright as his lawyer after Phoenix beat him
in a game of poker.

Enraged that he lost his big client to the famous Phoenix Wright,
Kristoph enlisted the services of artist and professional forger
Ese Doburoku to forge a piece of evidence which would be a page
from Tensai's journal. Doburoku had no idea that it would be used
for the trial so he went along with it. Kristoph told his younger
brother Kyouya that Phoenix will be presenting a piece of forged
evidence in the trial and that he should call on Doburoku as a
witness to prove it.

On the day of the trial, Kristoph gave Nanafushi's daughter Trucy
the forged journal entry to give to Phoenix. Phoenix's opponent was
a young 17 year old prosecutor Klavier Gavin, who was considered a 
prodigy. Throughout the trial, Phoenix tried to pin the murder on
Varan Arumajiki, who was part of the same magician troupe as Nanafushi.
Sadly it wasn't enough and the trial was beginning to take a turn for
the worse, so Phoenix resorted to having to present the forged journal
page. Phoenix has no idea it was forged so Kyouya called Doburoku to
testify that it was indeed forged, but he had no idea that it was
going to be used for the trial.

However, things only got worse since Phoenix was now in a pickle of a
situation. Since he obtained the forged journal page from Trucy, his
client's daughter, that would show that his own client forged the 
evidence and would definitely earn him a guilty verdict. But Phoenix,
being the hero that he always is, took responsibility for the forged
evidence so he could protect his client. Before the verdict was given,
Nanafushi used his magic tricks to disappear into thin air. 2 weeks
after the trial, Phoenix had his lawyer badge taken away from him. He
always suspected that Kristoph had something to do with it, but had no
solid evidence. So he befriended Kristoph and kept tabs on him so in 
the future, he would eventually learn the truth. Phoenix took in
Nanafushi's abandonded daughter Trucy and adopted her as his own. It
was through Kristoph that Phoenix met Apollo Justice and would finally
be able to learn the truth.


Q: Would Phoenix have lost his lawyer badge if he told the judge that
he recieved the forged journal page from Trucy?

A: Probably not, but since Phoenix believes in the innoncence of his
clients, he would take the bullet for them, so he took responsibility
for the forged journal page. If he told the judge, then that would have
guaranteed a guilty verdict for Nanafushi and that would weigh heavily
on Phoenix's conscience. Regardless, things would have ended up bad,
but Phoenix did everything he could to save his client and ended up
losing his badge for it.
