Yeh! What did I said about getting a PSP? Well, I just did 9 days ago it's been a lot of fun, and am already in the process of making another FAQ for that system on "Wild Arms XF" another outstanding SRPG. Don't worry I've priorities and this FAQ (FFTA 2) happened to be at the top my "to-finish-list." • (20/09/2008) Updated the FAQ: • "The Bazaar" section updated, added a couple more stuff • Added 2 Side Missions: 40 and 41 • Going to add Story Mission 14: "Seeking The Stone" soon • Refromatted the "Laws" section • (19/09/2008) Been going on a crazy "two-days" update phase lately, did a lot of changes to this guide, you mostly won't notice at a glance but it is there. The changes made are small but significant in the grand scheme of things. • Added new story mission: "Making Music" • Updated "The Bazaar" section • Edited alot of the strategies in this guide (improvement) • Rewritten a whole lot of other things as well • Removed and updated a couple of things throughout this FAQ Slowly, but surely this FAQ will be completed in no time. -OH NO DON'T TALK SHIT!--------------------------------------------------- Anyway, just wanna talk a bit. I've completed "Crisis Core: FF7" the game at times may feel repetitive but I played it for the storyline, and I am so slightly affected by the ending, oh boy! It was THAT good I tell you. Not many games have that kind of emotional impact on me, ;') this is why I love RPGs, and because of Crisis Core I'm gonna dish out the cash for a PSP!...no, I am not a fanboy, thank you, and the PSP I played CC on wasn't mine, it belonged to my super-crazy stingy nephew I hope his battery dies, and his PSP screen cracks or something. I'm evil and vile, I know! Ok, does anyone knows of any good-to-decent RPGs for the PSP? I already have the following on my to-buy-list: • Yggdra Union • Breath Of Fire III • Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII • Final Fantasy Tactics: War Of The Lions • Jeanne D'Arc • Riviera: The Promised Land • Valkyrie Profile • Wild Arms XF • Castlevania Chronicles X • Metal Gear Solid Ops Anymore, anymore?! E-mail me, thanks! --------------------------------------------END OF OH NO DON'T TALK SHIT!- • (17/09/2008) 7 in the morning and I can't sleep, but I feel tired somehow? Anyway I've added one more story mission to the guide "Sleepless Nights" yeah, I've been having sleepless nights lately... Weird, weird. • (15/09/2008) Updated the guide till "Rumors Abound" and added 2 more Side Missions, cut down on a lot of crap from this FAQ, hoping to do a lot more. 50 missions completed altogether I know it's very slow, but I always tend to take my time, no point rushing and submit a half-assed FAQ. Not my style! • (14/09/2008) Rewritten quite a lot of the guide. I'm supposed to add something else but I've geuninely fogotten what, my, am I getting old? • (12/09/2008) This FAQ is amazingly going through another makeover, a "graphic" overhaul if you will. I'm cutting down on many unnecessary "stuffs" and rewriting a whole lot of other things. Right now, I've quite a few of FAQs on my hand to complete. I asked for it, for wanting to make so many at the same time. But FFTA 2 is my topmost priority. Previous updates and history have been removed. There's a lot of changes, if I were to write them down here it'd never end. So, until then. Keep checking back. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E S E A R C H F U N C T I O N: I've implemented a "search function" in this FAQ, it's a keyword found at every end, example: "Characters.........[CH!]" this way you won't have too many problems finding your desired section instantly. 1. Yep! Luso isn't exactly the brightest in class (I assumed he's stupid or something?) and is always late for Mr. Blaire's class. Just when Luso was about to step out of the room Mr. Blaire stopped him and asked: "How many times have you reported late for my class?..." apparently it's more than his fingers could count. As punishment Luso was sent to the school's library to do some cleaning up after a whole lot of grumbling Luso decided to just go ahead and do it. Over at the library is where Luso... Or more precisely your adventure begins. If you've played the original FFTA then we can all safely assumed the Grimoire must have been Mewt's all along... That teddy bear by the counter brings a lot of nostalgic memories... Ahhh! I wonder what Marche and the others are doing now?... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################# CHARACTERS DESCRIPTIONS [CH!] ############################# An introduction to the people who you will meet along the way... Most of them will stay, some play hard-to-get while others forces themselves into your group. These are the characters that you will use 99% of the time. =========================================================================== LUSO, THE NOT SO BRIGHT STUDENT =========================================================================== A lucky, or rather unlucky student who stumbled upon an old Grimoire in his school library, perhaps the adventures he will have in the new world will teach him a few things he will never ever learn in school. Luso is rash and fearless, above all he's a caring soldier who look out for his comrades. =========================================================================== CID, LEADER OF CLAN GULLY =========================================================================== The very man who saved Luso from the impending doom that is Klesta, Cid is not exactly a greenhorn when it comes to the battlefield, experienced fighter with a shady past. =========================================================================== ADELLE, THE THIEF =========================================================================== A young female thief, very sly, very cunning, but under that "hideous vi- sage" lies a beautiful lady with an even more beautiful heart. Adelle is often mistaken to be a thoughtless, greedy thief... Well, everyone has their own share of misunderstandings every now and then, right? =========================================================================== HURDY, THE TRAVELING BARD =========================================================================== Promises Luso he will compose a song about his time in Ivalice, the Moogle joined your group in the hope that he could be richly inspired by Clan Gully's adventurous trip around Ivalice. And well, the Moogle got what he wanted in the end. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ######################### THE DIFFERENT RACES [RA!] ######################### Seven different races occupies the world of Ivalice... =========================================================================== HUME =========================================================================== Being the most versatile out of the seven races, humes will be one of your most used race in the game. Parivirs are powerful warriors and Ninjas are cool with their Dual-Wield Passive Ability. There sure are many ways to customize your hume character. =========================================================================== BANGAA =========================================================================== Fierce lizardmen that loves the frontline placing them in the backseat is doing them a huge injustice. As they're more battle-oriented they aren't really suited for dishing out magicks, though they have one magick-based class which is the "Bishop." =========================================================================== NU MOU =========================================================================== Despite what you may have think, the Nu Mous are not dog descendant, they are pretty apt in the magick department, this is further proven by the fact that majority (if not all) of their jobs are magick-based. Nu Mous are ideal for creating a magickal character. If you love magicks like me, then you can go wild with the Nu Mous there's so many magicks to be had & customized. =========================================================================== VIERA =========================================================================== Mostly of a female race, the Vieras are elegant, swift and quick with their hands and feet. Besides the Nu Mous, Vieras fare pretty well in the magick department. Elementalist and Summoner are two of the best classes in my humble opinion, Boulder Crush is cool if you want to immobilize your enemy and Summons hit for a wide range. =========================================================================== MOOGLE =========================================================================== Moogles doesn't perform all that well on the battlefield, except maybe for Moogle Knight who are powerful warriors. They're more well-known for their ranged-oriented classes, such as the Fusilier and the new Flintlock. While they're proficient mechanics, Tinker is probably one of the worst class to ever exist in Ivalice, but others may see this class as a diamond in the rogue but all in all, as they say: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." =========================================================================== GRIA =========================================================================== Winged beauties, don't be fool by their demure look as Grias are pretty powerful themselves, Raptor and Ravager will be your two most favorite classes to use in the game. Geomancer relies heavily on terrain and the weather making them hard to use. Hunters are cool slightly better than their humes counterpart in terms of stats. =========================================================================== SEEQ =========================================================================== Just because they're pigs they are by no means "fat and lazy," Lanista is the equivalent of a Dark Knight, while Berserker is the only offensive class that is available to the Seeq. Not too fond of Survivalist & Viking. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################ WHAT'S NEW [WN!] ################ A list of new things that are found in the new FFTA 2, some are new, some were revised and others were slightly tweaked for the better. They are in no particular order. =========================================================================== RECRUITING =========================================================================== The days of random people asking to join your clan are over. Recruiting members into your party now requires you to "find" them. In other words by visiting certain area during certain time of the month will allow you to recruit a certain generic character. =========================================================================== FAMOUS LAST WORDS =========================================================================== Before they die they will mumble a couple of sentences, like "sorry for letting you down" and sad stuff like that, they should have said thanks when we revive them with Phoenix Down or mend their wounds with Cure! That would add a lot of kick, just like the game "Jeanne D'Arc!" =========================================================================== LAWS AND PRIVILEGES =========================================================================== Three things will happen if you go against the law: • Privilege negated. • Can't revive fallen party memebers. • No law bonuses at the end. =========================================================================== ENEMY DROPS ITEM & DISAPPEAR =========================================================================== • Enemy drops item when they fell • And then they disappear =========================================================================== TREASURES, TREASURES, TREASURES =========================================================================== Treasures are sometimes found on the battlefield, these are of course for you to take away, but be careful not all treasures are "safe." =========================================================================== EARN EXPERIENCE AT THE END AND NEW MVP FEATURE =========================================================================== • You earn experience at the end of the battle • Everyone get roughly the same amount + additional bonus points • Contribute the most in battle and you can be the MVP =========================================================================== BRAND NEW MP SYSTEM =========================================================================== Brand new MP system which I strongly believe was adapted from Tactics Ogre everyone in your clan will start with 0 MP but with each turn will gain 10 MP. I believe this is very fair, since when casting magicks there's no charging time unlike in the original FFT (PS1) version. So, they make you charge your MP instead. There are of course various way to counter =========================================================================== TRAPS EVERYWHERE =========================================================================== Now there are traps, so watch your step. =========================================================================== NEW & IMPROVED DISPATCH FEATURE =========================================================================== The dispatch feature for this installment is much more polished, in a sense it is more flexible... Er, it's kinda hard to explain, but Kenji did an awesome job, so I'm gonna quote him/her: "More than 1 player can be sent off to complete a quest. Also, u can dis- patch clan members for most quest you could do with main character (Except Main missions)." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################ CONTROLS & NAVIGATIONS [CN!] ############################ Not all that complex... I personally like using the Stylus, but of course the D-Pad and buttons are more comfortable. NINTENDO DS LITE _______________________________________________________ | | | _________________________________ | | | | | | | O O | | | . . . | | . . . | | . . . | 1 | . . . | | | | | | | _________________ | | | | | | | |_________________________________| | | | |_______________________________________________________| (___________________________|________________________||_) | | | _________________________________ 4 | | _ | | | | _| |_ | _________________ | X | | |_ o _| | | Y A | | |_| | | B | | | 2 | | | | O O | 3 | | | | o START | | |_________________________________| o SELECT | | | |_______________________________________________________| ASCII Art by defunct32 Don't use the stylus if you think it sucks, ok?! Hahaha. =========================================================================== 1. TOP SCREEN =========================================================================== When out of battle this screen will display Luso's journal, as you progress through the story, the journal will slowly fill up. When you're doing missions (battle) this screen will then display the Unit Turn List, press either the L or R button to have a look-see who's coming up next. It's mostly accurate, but, buffs/debuffs plays a part; if a single unit is currently buffed with Haste then that particular unit turn will often come up! If slowed then you'll see less of that unit. =========================================================================== 2. TOUCH SCREEN =========================================================================== Where all the actions take place! Feel free to use the stylus, but I suggest you stick with the D-Pad and buttons. =========================================================================== 3. START & SELECT =========================================================================== None! =========================================================================== 4. X, Y, B, A =========================================================================== X, when on the World Map press X to access your unit and the menu. Y, press this for help whether in battle or in the menu. B, cancel. A, accept, yes, confirm, advance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ######################### BATTLE SYSTEM & ETC [BE!] ######################### I will explain a bit of the game battle system mechanic, though I have to warn you that I am no expert or pro in explaining all these stuff. You can refer to the booklet but eventually as you play more of the game, you will get the gist of everything. Nothing too complex to pick up. BASICS TO BATTLING ------------------ If you're an SRPG veteran then the grid system found in this game should be of no problem(s) to you. For newcomers, it may seem kind of confusing at first. But don't stress, I will try my best to explain... Let's imagine now: Have you ever played chest before? The grid works that way, but you don't move your unit the way chest does... =========================================================================== MOVING =========================================================================== When a unit's turn is up, choose "Move" from the command menu and panels of blue tiles will appear, this determines how far you can move within a turn. The higher your move stat the farther you can go. Accessories and current jobs will affect your move stat. =========================================================================== ATTACKING =========================================================================== To hurt your adversary, you will need to be standing adjacent to the sub- ject, choose "Action" then "Attack" from the menu. Jobs like Archer (Hume) and Sniper (Viera), etc does not require you to be standing next to the enemy, you can attack from afar. =========================================================================== PERFORMING SKILLS/MAGICKS OR USING ITEMS =========================================================================== Performing magicks or abilities works the same way as attacking, choose "Action" from the menu and pick the job's innate command. If you are a Black Mage then your command would be "Black Magick." If you so wish to use items then you will need to equip the command to your secondary slot. =========================================================================== 04. MAGICKS REQUIRES MP =========================================================================== As well as certain abilities and/or skills. In FFTA 2 you are not given the luxury of starting with full MP, everyone starts with 0 but with every turn each one will regenerate 10 MP. You can increase the amount with clan privileges or via the means of Passive abilities. • MP Channelling (Privilege) • Halve MP (P-Ability) =========================================================================== WAITING =========================================================================== Waiting allows a single unit to stand and do nothing, regenerate MP and even has his or her turn comes up a lot faster than usual. =========================================================================== FACING =========================================================================== Where you face will determine how much damage you will receive from your adversaries. If your back faces the enemy, then they will have a chance to strike you from behind resulting in high damage, now, you wouldn't want that to happen to you would you? • Always have your back facing the other way from the enemies • Use background/backdrop/obstacle to protect your back =========================================================================== MADE A MISTAKE? PRESS "B" =========================================================================== Moved to the wrong location? Just press B, you can do this as many times as you want. =========================================================================== SMASH GAUGE =========================================================================== .---------------------------- | Portrait Luso / / | / / <--- SMASH GAUGE | HP 100/100 /-/ | LV. 8 MP 100/100 / / o------------------------ • Equip a Scion's accessory like the "Gigas Pendant" • Perform an action in battle or receive damage to increase the meter • Feel free to summon a Scion when the bar glows in many different colors - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STATUS AILMENTS/STATUS BONUS ---------------------------- Battles are never smooth sailing, there are times when your adversary will try to cripple you with various ailments. This includes but not limited to Poison, Confusion, Blind, etc, etc. Some support spells adds status bonus to a single or multiple units, this includes but not limited to Protect, Shell, Haste, etc, etc. I'll explain what each ailment does as well as the remedy/cure for it. Very effective if you broke the law COUNTER: Dispel (W. Monk) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ABBREVIATION ------------ Just for reference sake, I've listed what does each abbreviation means in the status screen as well as any others found in the game. =========================================================================== 01. HP (HIT/HEALTH POINTS) =========================================================================== The amount rises with each level gain. 100/100 the first number signify the current amount you have, while the second number is the max amount you have at all time. Ex: An enemy attacked you, you lost 50 HP, so you are left with 50 out of 100 HP (50/100). When HP hits 0 (0/100) your unit will lost conscious (KO). To remedy this situation use a Phoenix Down or the spell Raise (or its siblings - Reraise, Full Raise). To heal lost HP either use an healing item (Potion, Hi-Potion, etc) or the Cure spell (Cura, Curaga). When a unit's HP reached critical status the unit will kneel down, this is a signal for you to quickly heal the wounded before he or she goes to hell. =========================================================================== 02. MP (MAGICK/MANA/MIST POINTS) =========================================================================== MP works the same way as HP, when it hits 0 you are unable to use any form of skills/techniques or magics or anything that requires MP usage. To remedy this use an Ether or wait each turn for it to regenerate. =========================================================================== 03. EXP (EXPERIENCE POINTS) =========================================================================== You earn experience points at the end of every battle, everyone will get the same amount (roughly) + additional EXP bonuses. If a unit is the MVP for the battle then he or she will get even more points. Earn 100 EXP to level up. Only clanners who participated in battles earn Experience Points. =========================================================================== 04. AP (ABILITY POINTS) =========================================================================== The AP System was first seen in FF 9 (one of my favourites), all you've to do is equip that particular piece of equipment, collect enough AP and you'll permanently master the abilities embedded in the equipment. Not all weapons, shields, etc have abilities. Once you have mastered everything you can deequip, change job and do whatever you like, as long as you have mastered them you can use them whenever your heart desires. Everyone in your clan will earn AP regardless whether they participated in any kind of battles, use this to your advantage to learn as many abilities as you can. =========================================================================== 05. ATK (ATTACK) =========================================================================== The higher the value for this stat, the higher the damage you will deal to your foe. Equipping weapon will definitely increase or decrease this stat. =========================================================================== 06. DEF (DEFENSE) =========================================================================== The higher the value for this stat, the lower the damage you will receive from enemy's physical attack. Same as ATK equipping armors and certain accessories will definitely increase or decrease the DEF stat. =========================================================================== 07. MAGICK =========================================================================== Determines the potency of one's magic, likewise the higher the value the more damage you'll deliver with your magick. =========================================================================== 08. RESISTANCE =========================================================================== Determines your magick resistance, the higher the value the less damage you'll take from magickal attacks. I am not sure if this also applies to negative status, as in whether it affect how well guarded you're against debuffs (such as Poison, Confuse and the like). =========================================================================== 09. SPEED =========================================================================== Determins how fast your character move, obviously the higher the better as with other stats, equipping certain equipments may increase or decrease this stat. =========================================================================== 10. JUMP =========================================================================== Determines a unit's ability to jump, the higher the value, the higher you can jump! =========================================================================== 11. CLAN POINTS (CP) =========================================================================== Used for Auction House or Clan Trials, think of it as another form of Gil. =========================================================================== 12. WALKTHROUGH LAYOUT =========================================================================== This is not in the game, but it's in this guide... o-------------------------------------------------------o | o MI. NAME: Name of the mission you're undertaking. | | o LOCATION: Name of the location. | | o DURATION: How long (days) will this mission lasts. | | o REQUIRES: Item requirements. | | o TALENTS!: Talents needed to accept mission.* | |-------------------------------------------------------| | o OBJECTIVE: Winning conditions. | | o FORBIDDEN: Law for the day. Don't break. | | o PRIVILEGE: What privilege I've used for the battle. | |-------------------------------------------------------| | o ENEMY'S FORMATION: The enemy(ies) you're facing. | |-------------------------------------------------------| | o PARTY'S FORMATION: My recommended party. | |-------------------------------------------------------| | o RECOMMENDED: What abilities & items to bring along. | |-------------------------------------------------------| | o REWARD(S): The goodies and the spoils of war. | o-------------------------------------------------------o *NE(Negotiation), AP(Aptitude), TE(Teamwork), AD(Adaptability) NE(19), AP(22), TE(52), AD(-) Simply means that you will need to have your Negotiation at level 19, Aptitude at 22, Teamwork at 52 and none for Adaptability. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ############################### WHAT ARE MISSIONS/QUESTS? [WQ!] ############################### The game called it Quest, I called them Missions. Missions are your bread and butter, it is where you earn War Fund (Gil), Loots (Bazaar), CP (Auctions, Clan Trials), AP and most important of all Experience. Take time to complete Side Missions and even do them as many times as you want. Remember, it's all for the sake of leveling up your characters and trying to learn as many abilities as possible! =========================================================================== 01. VITAL/STORY MISSIONS (MAIN QUESTS) =========================================================================== They're Story Missions, quests that progresses the story. They have no Time or Day Limit. You can accept it and let a thousand years pass and still able to accomplish or finish it. =========================================================================== 02. SIDE MISSIONS (SIDE QUESTS) =========================================================================== Basically missions that do not directly affect the main story, but will aid you in gaining more Gil, AP and whatnot! So, it's recommended that you take them up it also help to have your clanners grow in level any way right? =========================================================================== 03. ACCEPTING MISSIONS =========================================================================== To accept missions just visit any towns and choose "Pub." The Pub is the place where you do all of the dealings, from reading Notices, to browsing through the Rumors and even undertaking Clan Trials, the Pub is the central hub for your daily adventuring needs (besides the shop, of course). =========================================================================== 04. DISPATCHING =========================================================================== Dispatach works differently now, sometimes when you accept a mission, you see the option "Dispatch" this is optional cause you can still manually do such missions without sending out a dispatch party. If, in the event you'd like to send out an advance party, then here are some pointers you need to consider: CLANNER'S ATTITUDE: ------------------- • If they're ON THEIR KNEE it means they cannot carry on (fail). • If they're "WALKING" it means 50/50 chance of success. • If they PUT THEIR HAND UP it means a GOOD chance of success. • If they're JUMPING it means they're confident it's a 100% success. It's always best to make sure that the Leader is jumping, the rest be putting their hand up for a good chance of success for the mission. Of course, I do not have to mention that if everyone in the dispatch party is jumping consider the mission done and over with cause it means 101% success, yes. 101%. CLANNER'S LEVEL AND EQUIPMENT ----------------------------- The higher your level and the better you are equipped, the higher the chance of returning home with glory and success, I heard that there's a mathematical way to calculate the chances of success like LEVEL + MAX HP + MP gibberish, all these are not needed! You're not going to waste your time to calcuate, right? Just make sure your level exceeds that of the RANK. If the RANK dictates 45, have most of your clanners be at level 55 and above. That's what I always do if I do dispatches. MVP PLAYS A PART ---------------- If a clanner's MVP is high, then chances of success is set even higher so, basically if you've everything in tip top condition: EQUIPMENTS, LEVEL, and MVP then you're set to go! Having HIGH MVP just help makes things much better and convenient. =========================================================================== 05. CERTAIN DISPATCH REQUIRES CERTAIN JOB =========================================================================== Yes, certain dispatch mission requires certain job, these can be found in the mission page usually they'll put up Recommended Job: Defender, Juggler, Ranger, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ################## TIPS & HINTS [TH!] ################## I've compiled a list of tips & hints that may help you in your adventure. They're not 100% sure-win tips or anything, but they may be useful in one way or another, do take the time to look through. =========================================================================== 01. ATTACK FROM THE SIDE OR BACK =========================================================================== Attack your adversary from the sides or the back, this will ensure high percentage hit rate and a good amount of damage dealt. Here's one fine example: • I had Luso attack an enemy from the front - 93% Hit, 22 DMG. • Then I had Luso attack from the side - 93% Hit, 33 DMG. • After that I had Luso attack from the back - 97% Hit, 55 DMG. Do you see the difference? Just don't freak out if you missed at 99%. =========================================================================== 02. GANG UP ON YOUR ENEMY =========================================================================== Gang up on one enemy to quickly finish him or her off, if possible don't try to have a one-on-one fight unless you're confident you're able to send your adversary to Hell with a one-hit attack or one-hit spell. It's usually faster to gang up, trust me, given this game's slow speed you'll be all glad if you could finish a mission battle in half the time. =========================================================================== 03. STOCK UP, OR RISK DYING! =========================================================================== Stock up on healing items it's very important that you have an abun- dance of them, you might want to stock up on Potions first as the game progresses switch it with Hi-Potion and eventually to X-Potion. The rest are not really necessary but are good to have: Antidote, Echo Grass. =========================================================================== 04. TAKE IT THREE OR FIVE AT A TIME =========================================================================== Don't take up too many missions at once, you'll find that it's best to accept at least 3 missions minimum or 5 missions max. Keep the days in mind if you're traveling from one area to another, everything takes a day even from Fluorgis to Moorabella or vice-versa. =========================================================================== 05. THE LESSER THE BETTER =========================================================================== It's not recommended to have more than 15 members in your party, mostly because it's hard to maintain an average level. The best is to have at least two members from every race. Don't forget special or unique characters do have their own race too; Cid/Bangaa, Adelle/Hume, Hurdy/ Moogle, the only catch; you can't send them on dispatch. =========================================================================== 06. BE THE JACK OF ALL TRADES =========================================================================== Everyone in the clan will earn AP regardless whether they participated in any battles or not, this way you can change jobs if there's nothing to learn in your current one, keep doing this and eventually you will have a plethora of abilities at your disposal, when you're ready change to your preferred jobs and level up! =========================================================================== 07. UNDERTAKE TRIALS AND EARN NEW PRIVILEGES =========================================================================== Privileges are benefit that sometimes may turn the tide of battle for your clan, privileges such as Speed, Move are definitely helpful for that extra boost. So, take time to do as many trials as you can for the cost of 10 CP only. More To Be Added... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- W A L K T H R O U G H [01^] =========================================================================== 01. LIBRA =========================================================================== If you've a copy of FFTA (GBA) then insert it into your DS GBA slot, you will automatically get the privilege: "Libra." The ability to see traps on the battlefield (which I personally think is useless). So, if you don't have a copy of FFTA (GBA), don't cry and get over it there are waaay better privileges out there in Ivalice. ;) =========================================================================== 02. NORMAL MODE =========================================================================== This walkthrough will reflect the Normal Mode of the game, there is no significant difference between the two, just that: one is easier than the other. ---------------- W A L K T H R O U G H B E G I N S --------------------- ######################## INTO THE NEW WORLD [BG#] ######################## "Summer vacation's so close I can taste it. You will meet Cid and the rest of the gang (Viera W. Mage and Nu Mou B. Mage). They will explain to you the basics of gameplay and battle take time to understand and absorb whatever you can. The objective here is to bring down Klesta's health, not exactly down to 0 but low enough for the chicken to spread his wings and fly away. There are two ways to go about this: • Ignore the smaller chickens and go all out on Klesta. • Eliminate all foes, starting with the smaller chickens. 2nd option will of course net you more EXP and a couple of loots. Also keep yourself spread out, standing in a + formation will only mean "death from above" as Klesta will definitely use his "Territorial Marking" ability. Keep an eye on Cid's health as he is the only other person who can inflict major damage beside Luso. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - VICTORY IS OURS! =========================================================================== When you've finished the battle a small cutscene will occur, the World Map is yours now, I suggest you open up the MAIN MENU by pressing X and get a feel on how things are arranged, play around, seek and discover. Once you are happy with everything go and save your game under System. Your next destination is "Wood Village" in "Targ Wood." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- MISSION 002: A PAW FULL OF FEATHERS [AF#] ----------------------------------------- The familiar-looking pub is still around in Ivalice, if you have ever played the original FFTA then this place shouldn't be alien to you. A Pub is essentially where you pick up new Quests, listen to Rumors, undergo Clan Trials and many other juicy stuff. Pub has more uses now than in the previous title. Or rather...more polished and "finished." After a bit of talking you'll get to name Cid's clan, the default name is Gully. That's not sweet, so rename it to whatever you like. I named mine ASTARIA which means: "A star in the sky shinning ever so brigtly in the blanket of darkness"... in my own language, yeah I freakin' make my own language. I'm cool (or crazy) like that :P. Everyone will be pleased to have you on board, especially that snuggly thieve Moogle jumping up and down, everyone else will nod their head in agreement! Back on the World Map the game will inform you the importance of town, if you press A over "Wood Village" you'll see two options but you only get to choose one: =========================================================================== 01. PUB =========================================================================== Where you do the usual business of undertaking missions/quests and all that good stuff. =========================================================================== 02. SHOP =========================================================================== Purchase equipments or send loots to the Bazaar... Shop is grayed out for now, so, just pick Pub. Pick pub pick pub pick pub! The bartendar (who was in the previous FFTA as well, sweet appearance!) will explain to you about QUESTS. I will further explain about what each option do: =========================================================================== 01. NOTICES =========================================================================== Basically information that's related to your quest(s) or in-game stuff. =========================================================================== 02. QUEST ROSTER =========================================================================== As the bartendar had mentioned earlier, this is where you choose your missions and stuff. Any missions that has expiry days (20 days, 15 days etc, etc) are all side missions, Vital Missions that actually advances the story do not have any day limit. =========================================================================== 03. CURRENT QUESTS =========================================================================== Quests you picked up at the bar, you can undertake as many as 15 quests at once. But it's strongly recommended (by me) that you accept 3 min, 5 max! Anything more is just too much to handle. =========================================================================== 04. RUMORS =========================================================================== The rumor factory is always churning out hot news, take Rumors as a form of tutorial and useful information to get by in the game. As the you advance further into the game more rumors will be made available. They're usually information that helps you utilize the game mechanism more efficiently. For any future references, you can look them up in the Clan Primer in the Main Menu (World Map, X button). Any Notices/Rumors you've read at the pub will be added to the Primer. Fun stuff... ;) Once you are all set choose the new Quest: "A Paw Full Of Feathers" It's the only one available to you. Back on the World Map don't rush to the to the exclamation mark, like Cid had suggested we should visit the shop and see what they have to offer. A note about shop that you should know: every town have the same line-up, same person, same everything this in my opinion is much more convenient and better. Anyway, the point of visiting the store is to actually leave and open up a new feature called the "Bazaar." =========================================================================== 01. BAZAAR =========================================================================== Create equipments to make them available for purchase. That's basically it. Go out there fight, earn some loots, go to any shop select Bazaar and make your desired equipments. =========================================================================== 02. HOW DO WE MAKE THE EQUIPMENTS?! =========================================================================== Here's a nice ASCII art I have made to better explain this fun new feature of the game: _____________________________________________________________ o | o | BAZAAR | GRADE | |------------------------------'------------------------------| | A B C D E | | BRONZE ARMOR X X X X + | | APPRENTICE WEAPONS X X X X O | | SMALLSWORDS X O O O O | o_____________________________________________________________o Ok, all you need to pay attention to is the + sign, well, in the game they were not labeled as a + sign but by a "bright yellow ball." If you see one of those under any one of the letters (A, B, C and D) then it means you can create the equipment, tap (I mean, press A) the equipment and pick the appropriate material the line must connect when successfully done the game will inform you accordingly. So, for example you see this: A B C D E X X X X + In the equipment making page, pick materials that are ranked E and it will look something like this: ________________________________________ o _ o | METAL: |_| LEAD A B C D E | | | | | _ | | | FLORA: |_| FATAL PETAL A B C D E | | | | | | | | | | | | | | EXCALIBUR A B C D E | | X X X X + | o________________________________________o There you have it! The Bazaar is actually really, really fun many people hate it but I find it really.... fun! Haha. My advice when it comes to the Bazzar is that, read the descriptions at the bottom and see if the equipment you're gonna make will be of any use now, what matters is NOW! Don't think too far ahead into the future. There's no point creating a weapon for the Gria or Seeq when you know you're not gonna have them in your party in a long time, perhaps the materials that you used to create their gears can be used to make other BETTER items that will be used by your current party... You get what I'm saying? And.... Holy damn! it's only the beginning and I'm already writing a whole bunch of stuff, I feel like I'm writing a novel. You should be creating the Broadsword at the Bazaar and purchase it for Luso. Equip it on him right away. Leave the store and the next thing you should do is set everyone's secondary ability with "Items." I don't need to tell you how, right? You should know by now. Once you're all prepped visit "Muskmallow Field." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. NAME: A PAW FULL OF FEATHERS | | o LOCATION: MUSKMALLOW FIELD | | o DURATION: ---- | | o REQUIRES: ---- | | o TALENTS!: ---- | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o OBJECTIVE: DEFEAT ALL FOES! | | o FORBIDDEN: FIRE | | o PRIVILEGE: POWER^ 1 | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o ENEMY'S FORMATION: WOLF x2 | | BAKNAMY | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o PARTY'S FORMATION: LUSO (SOLDIER) | | CID (WARRIOR/GUEST) | | W. MAGE (VIERA) | | B. MAGE (NU MOU) | | WARRIOR (BANGAA) | | ARCHER (HUME) | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o REWARD(S): 1050 GIL | | SNAKE SKIN x2 | | TINY MUSHROOMS x2 | | FRESH WATER x4 | o-----------------------------------------------------o =========================================================================== STRATEGY - THE WOLVES & THE BAKNAMY... =========================================================================== First order of business is, don't ever use FIRE magick as Fire in this battle is banned. The wolves shouldn't pose any form of threat to your party, have Luso have at it, if you have an Archer with you then by all means, have him aid by shooting arrows from afar. Your Bangaa Warrior will be very helpful in dealing high damage. White Mage Viera should always help the party in healing. The enemy Baknamy will occasionally use "Magic Hammer" a Blue Mage ability you may want to keep that in mind. Otherwise, again no real strategy needed here, do what you always do. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - VICTORY YET AGAIN! =========================================================================== Once you're done here, just head back to "Wood Village" again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------- MISSION 003: THE YELLOW WINGS [YW#] ----------------------------------- Back at the pub you'll see a group of adventurers talking about Blocked Roads seems like the High Road leading to Camoa are littered with bandits. Luso suggested that we teach 'em a lesson and at the same time open up the road, good idea there, boy! Cid will leave the clan for a while to take a look at your journal, so you be fighting without him. Back on the World Map visit the Main Menu and choose Unit Info, you should see a couple of your clanners jumping up and down like happy monkeys, this signify they have mastered an ability or two have a look over and make any necessary changes if applicable. Exit. I recommend that you save your progress, your next stop now would be the shop... or rather the Bazaar. Survival Set should be available so make 'em you will create a "Jackknife" with the current loot that you have in your possession. Buy any items if you'd like then leave the shop and return to the Pub to accept some new quests. The Bartendar have a couple of new Rumors in, you can either read 'em on the spot or save them for later (just press A then B to store them rumors into your Clan Primer for later reference). Back to the quest, there are now 3 for you to choose: 2 Side Missions and 1 Vital Mission. Accept "The Yellow Wings" to advance the story. -NOTE--------------------------------------------------------------------- I've made a separate section entirely on Side Missions, you can access that section if you want. -----------------------------------------------------------------END NOTE- On the World Map "Traveler's Way" will have (!) over it. Head on over. o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. NAME: THE YELLOW WINGS | | o LOCATION: TARG WOOD | | o DURATION: ---- | | o REQUIRES: ---- | | o TALENTS!: ---- | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o OBJECTIVE: DEFEAT ALL FOES! | | o FORBIDDEN: ICE | | o PRIVILEGE: POWER^ 1 | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o ENEMY'S FORMATION: HUME (THIEF) | | BANGAA (W. MONK) | | MOOGLE (ANIMIST) | | VIERA (ARCHER) | | NU MOU (B. MAGE) | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o PARTY'S FORMATION: LUSO (SOLDIER) | | CID (WARRIOR) | | W. MAGE (VIERA) | | B. MAGE (NU MOU) | | WARRIOR (BANGAA) | | ARCHER (HUME) | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o REWARD(S): 1750 GIL | | LAMIA SCALE x2 | | SANATIVE NEEDLE x3 | | EARTH STONE x3 | o-----------------------------------------------------o =========================================================================== STRATEGY - THIS WON'T BE THE LAST YOU'LL SEE OF THEM... =========================================================================== Cid will be with you, he's only unavailable for Side Missions. Your top to eliminate list will be the Viera Archer as majority of the time she will use Focus to up her strength, making her much more treacherous than anyone else on the battlefield, take her out A.S.A.P.. The Nu Mou Black Mage will be your next target, his magick might not hit for much but if leave him be he'll definitely be able to remove one of you in no time. Also, just remember to spread out to prevent being the victim of the Nu Mou's black arts Your Hume Archer can help aid the party by adding damage with his bow and arrows. That's pretty much it I doubt there's anything more I could add. This battle ain't so hard on Normal Mode! ;) =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - HM?! VICTORY SURE IS SWEET... =========================================================================== "Camoa Highroad" is now accessible you may want to head back to the shop to create something new at the Bazaar, or just to purchase some amazing restorative items... your call! If you visit the pub in "Wood Village" or in "Camoa" the game will inform you about Clan Trials. -NOTE--------------------------------------------------------------------- - ABOUT CLAN TRIALS - Yes, you can earn new privileges but at the cost of your Clan Points (CP) as well as your talents, what does this mean? You see, certain trial can increase one particular talent but decreases the other by a lot. Example: + 10 NEGOTIATION, - 6 TEAMWORK. So, I suggest for you to wait until you've build up your talents then you can go and undertake the trials. How do you increase your talents then? By doing Side Missions! -----------------------------------------------------------------END NOTE- Back at the Pub. One notice + a slew of other SIDE MISSIONS are available. Accept whatever you can and complete them, for now, doing Side Missions is the only way to get stronger in level. Refer to the section "Side Missions" if you need help with any of 'em! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- MISSION 004: YOU SAY TOMATO [YT#] --------------------------------- "Camoa" reminds me of the place where Marche first met Montblanc, it looks new but uncanny at the same time. Cid will meet up with Ribs, and the guy will tell you about a wizard that he knows of, but before he will impart you of the Wizard's whereabouts he asks you to fetch some Tomato Stalk. Cid wil mention something about jobs, you may want to change your job now or whatsoever but I'll stick with whatever I am now. I will most probably not dictate you on how to play your game. If you think it's cool to be a Thief for the whole game then, cool! If you like to be a White Mage for the whole game then, it's cool too. Do whatever! Visit the Pub, there's one Notice and a couple of Rumors, read and store them in your Primer. The important Rumors you SHOULD PAY UTMOST ATTENTION to are these: =========================================================================== 01. NEW RECRUITS =========================================================================== This rumor will inform you on how to recruit potential new clanners. You should try this out, though of course going back and forth to make the day pass is a pain, and make sure you're not undertaking any Side Missions, Side Missions are days sensitive, Vital Mission are ok they don't have any expiry day. =========================================================================== 02. TRIALS AND PRIVILEGE =========================================================================== Informing you about trials and privileges, new titles, and of course new privileges. =========================================================================== 03. THIS IS THE WAY! =========================================================================== About dispatching a small group to do your dirty work, while they're on a dispatch mission you can't use them in any battles until they have returned best dispatched when you've more than 12 members, ok! =========================================================================== 04. CLAN TALENTS! =========================================================================== Just a small tidbits about how Clan Talents will affect your chances of taking up missions at the pub. Now look under Quest Roster and accept "YOU SAY TOMATO." Leave the pub and head on over to the (!) mark. o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. NAME: YOU SAY TOMATO | | o LOCATION: CAMOA | | o DURATION: ---- | | o REQUIRES: ---- | | o TALENTS!: ---- | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o OBJECTIVE: DEFEAT ALL FOES! | | o FORBIDDEN: LIGHTNING | | o PRIVILEGE: POWER^ 1 | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o ENEMY'S FORMATION: DEADLY NIGHTSHADE x4 | | ALRAUNE | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o PARTY'S FORMATION: LUSO (SOLDIER) | | CID (WARRIOR) | | ADELLE (THIEF/GUEST) | | W. MAGE (VIERA) | | B. MAGE (NU MOU) | | WARRIOR (BANGAA) | | ARCHER (HUME) | |-----------------------------------------------------| | o REWARD(S): 560 GIL | | FURY FRAGMENTS x2 | | SILK THREAD x2 | | RABBIT PELT x2 | o-----------------------------------------------------o =========================================================================== STRATEGY - HAVE YOU SEEN A TOMATO WITH FANGS?! =========================================================================== Small, little tomatoes are jumping up and down in delight. Though, I'm not exactly sure what they're happy about? A new character will pop up, her name is Adelle a Hume girl. After a small "introduction" of some sort you'll be fighting the tomatoes with the aid of the maiden. Remember for this battle: Lightning (Thunder) is forbidden, any abilities, equipments imbued with lightning are not allowed. If you're lucky the battle will start with the tomatoes lining up, this is your chance to have your Black Mage have a go at it. The tomatoes are weak against Water but you don't have access to that ability right now, so just whack with whatever you've got (except thunder, of course). Be careful of the Deadly Nightshade's Tomato Fang and Tomato Tackle as the former can knock you back while the later may lower your speed. This is another easy fight which you should not be having too much trouble with. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - DID SHE JUST TOOK THE ALRAUNE DRILL? =========================================================================== Upon giving the Tomato Stalk to Ribs, the guy informs you the existence of a legendary court magician who weaved the first spell of the Judges, it's either the first spell or the Judges themselves, I can't tell since this game talk funny but amazingly unique in my opinion. According to legend he died a long time ago, but it seems to be otherwise... You're about to make Ribs spill even more beans when you notice Adelle passing by, what's next? Chase after the cat herself! Hit the Pub and do the usual standard of procedures: o Check the Notices (if available). o Update yourself with the Rumors (if available). And then you busy yourself with Missions! There's an interesting rumor regarding roadblock, yes, they're trying to tell you that if a certain map has an X over them it means that exit is blocked, all you have to do is walk around (also known as "making the day pass"), come back and the block should disappear. Accept the new story/vital mission: "Wanted: Ugohr." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- MISSION 005: WANTED: UGOHR [WU#] -------------------------------- o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. The Great Tortoise himself is slow but beware of his R-Ability: "Counter" weak clanners should never directly attack him, instead use magick or an Archer to deliver the damage. Also, don't clutter or stick together, or he will use "Rain Of Stone" an ability that damages you, but heals him. This battle is one of the easiest one in the game. Eliminate everything as you see fit. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - SETTING THE TRAP OF SUCCESS! =========================================================================== After the battle watch a small scene where both Luso and Cid will set a trap for Adelle. Back on the World Map head for the city of adventures: "Camoa" and the two will chill at the Pub. You will see Adelle and she will come up to you. Being a Thief sure has its benefits, seems like Adelle is able to get off of the trap you've set earlier. She will force herself into your clan, hire her and change her job if you want, personally I only let her stay as a Thief to become a Ninja (x4 Thief A-Abilities). Adelle will become an extremely useful character later on in the game, as a ******* she has a wide array of abilities at her dis- posal, so I recommend that you level her up in an offense-oriented job. Pass through the "Bisga Greenlands" and to "Graszton Highroad" and finally to the city of Graszton herself. A small scene will occur where Cid is talking to some resident. Just before Cid could take his leave a Ninja with a gun (no, Ninja is not able to wield guns in the game, this Ninja is hacked and modified) will fire down the Bangaa... So much drama, hmm?... Do what is necessary and when you're able to access the Pub, read the ru- mors especially "Trinkets Of Summoning" this rumor will open up your chance in obtaining Scion's accessories to summon legendary beasts to re- lease Hell on the battlefied... known as "Scion's Wrath." Accept "Wanted: Gilmunto" to progress the story. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------- MISSION 006: WANTED: GILMUNTO [WG#] ----------------------------------- Make doubly sure you're able to access the "Aldanna Range" if it has yet to open, then walk around Jylland and eventually the region will open up itself. Upon entering the new territory Luso will remark at how thick the fog... or rather the Mist. Adelle will then explain that Mist is the root of all Magick and then some in Ivalice. o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. Take everyone and leave your Moogle behind, bring in a W. Mage Nu Mou for that extra boost in healing power, have Black Magick as his secondary ability so when he is not busy mending wounds, he can aid the clan in dealing damage. My Viera is still an Archer. I've long switched my Bangaa Warrior into a W. Monk. Bringing along with me are 20 bottle of potions and 5 feathers of Phoenix Down. That's pretty much it for preparations! -NOTE--------------------------------------------------------------------- The game will suggest to you to consider your units placement, while I personally think this is really unnecessary, don't exactly brush this off cause one thing you're not gonna put your spellcasters in front and your melee fighters behind, it should be the other way around. Though of course in some battles units placement are really out of context. I'll also put up a list of recommended abilities and items to bring along, seeing as how we're able to switch jobs (which you should explore around). Remember these are only recommendations you don't have to follow them, the last thing I want is (I be crude) a fucking asshole to e-mail telling me how I shouldn't be telling others what to do and how everything I've ever said are wrong and how God wouldn't forgive me and I'll rot in Hell... And you know what? I don't care cause I believe God got better things to do than to punish a FAQ-writer *mumble* *mumble*... (amended for length). Take all of these as recommendations, more or less with a pinch of salt. -----------------------------------------------------------------END NOTE- Your target here is Gilmunto the Asp, you can instantly finish this battle if you take him out but the situation doesn't permit such an option (look where he is standing?). Just take everything one step at a time. The Yellow Jelly and Thunder Drake absorb LIGHTNING so avoid using THUNDER MAGICK on those two at all cost, the Worgen shouldn't be a problem with your W. Monk you can easily decimate them with Air Render. Counter is also a recommended R-Ability to have since the Worgens will almost just attack you head-on. When Gilmunto is finally within your reach have everyone at him. This will quickly end the battle. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - "I AM *@#$%^&*" =========================================================================== "I am Lezaford." Watch the scene that unfold... Lez will... Ok that's a bad name! Lezaford will explain your journal and its purpose and your goal for the rest of the game which is to keep doing what you've been doing: questing. Sounds good, no? After all that jazz make Graszton your next stop. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ MISSION 007: NOW THAT'S A FIRE [NF#] ------------------------------------ You'll be introduced to the game's new feature called "Auction," every town has one, except for Targ Wood. The rules of the Auction are simple the clan with the most tokens win! But when you choose to dish out those "coins" is your call, strategy applies here. I got the gist of everything after a couple of tries, so, I won't explain how this Auction thing works. Or you can refer to one of the FAQs on GameFAQs.com? :) Visit the Pub and two Notices should be up one about Lang, the other about Carm Mercantile. Read both and don't forget the Rumors as well! Accept the quest "NOW THAT'S A FIRE" proceed on ahead to "Zedlei Forest." -NOTE--------------------------------------------------------------------- Take time to undergo Clan Trials earn some new PRIVILEGES and I'm not sure but I'll just add it here, try walking around from one area to another, chances are you might encounter random enemy battles, a very good opportu- nity to level up your clan. -----------------------------------------------------------------END NOTE- o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. Monk "Air Render" ability. Bring along with you a generous amount of Potions just in case. Be wary of the Floating Eye's Death Dive and Gnaw the first deliver crazy damage while the latter may inflict Poison debuff upon a unit. While the bombs are not much of a threat be extremely careful when they're low on HP cause it may just Self-Destruct, don't ever surround them. The real problem here is the Red Marshmallow as they came equipped with the ability "Unction," a multi-target ability that will oil units, the Oil debuff will make you more susceptible to the Fire element. Mend all your wounds with your W. Mage or the healthy stock of Potions you brought along with you. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - WE HAVE ALL DONE A GOOD DEED! =========================================================================== Back on the World Map the blue bubble with (!) should appear atop both Camoa and Graszton, go to either one and choose the "Auction House." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- MISSION 008: PEARLS IN THE DEEP [PD#] ------------------------------------- The Auction is another new (and fun) feature found in FFTA 2, in order to control a territory you'll have to do it via Auctions, be the one with the most token and you'll gain control of that particular region. Take note that you've a limited amount of "time" (as determined by the bar at the bottom until it reaches its mark) to dish out your tokens, do it strategically and you will save yourself coins for use in later rounds. Check out the rumor called "Tells" to know more about your opponents. I won't go into details on how the auction works, as eventually you'll get the gist of everything in not time! Believe me, as much as you would like to think there's some trick behind this feature there's really none. -NOTE--------------------------------------------------------------------- If you're going to follow my strategy then I suggest at least two Vieras Sniper for the upcoming boss fight, though one is more than enough it doesn't hurt if you have any extra Viera lying around to help in this cause. It makes fighting the boss much more bearable anyway. But for this fight I'm going to only have one Viera Sniper. -----------------------------------------------------------------END NOTE- Head for the "Galerria Deep." o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. If you don't have Regen then go for Speed or Power. Many would suggest that you gang up on the Yowie at the bottom with your strongest members, but the boss has the ability to suck you in and gain HP which kind of defeat the purpose of bringing his health down. What I would suggest you to do is to have your Sniper(s) do all the attacking and have the rest of the clanners fend off the minions that keep respawning. This strategy may take a while, which is why I recommend that you have at least two Snipers with you. Stay as far away as you can from the Yowie otherwise he will definitely use his "suck in" ability. His other means of attack is "Gravity Flux" an earth elemental attack that hits all of you on the battlefield. Have your W. Mage on the ready or healing. You may want to use the Focus ability to add to the damage, this will also speed things up a little bit. If in the unfortunate event that one of your party members got "drawn in" don't bother healing the affected unit, let him/her die, no point healing him or her only to have him "drawn in" again in the process healing the boss. WATERED-DOWN VERSION: --------------------- 01. Keep everyone away. 02. Have a W. Mage stand by the Sniper (or anyone) to help heal. 03. The rest keep cutting down the incoming Pit Beasts/Antlions. 04. Heal whenever necessary with magick and/or items (Hi-Potions is good). 05. Rinse and repeat. I know, it's a long and arduous battle... But it can be done! Here's my Sniper's stats, if you're curious: ARYM / SNIPER / VIERA / LEVEL 18 -------------------------------- EQUIPMENT: ---------- Max's Oathbow (Auction reward) Green Beret Chainmail Armguards ABILITIES: ---------- Sharpshooting Precision (with Focus mastered) Archer's Bane (P-Ability) STATS: ------ ATK 95 DEF 77 =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - SAVE! SAVE! SAVE! =========================================================================== Don't forget to save when you're on the World Map! Head back to Graszton and read two new rumors at the Pub: o Wielders Of The Cannon (New job alert) o Trouble In Jylland (new line of quests, maybe?) New job alert and the other probably will start a new line of quests... Once you're all done, accept "Mountain Watch" as your next quest. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- MISSION 009: MOUNTAIN WATCH [MW#] --------------------------------- Your next stop will be "The Rupie Mountains" head on over and you'll get a scene between Luso and a Nightfall. The Ninja offered two million Gil for your Judge. Luso refuses and the Nightfall gets aggressive calling all his friends... o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. Watch as your Judge struggles to escape from Ewen's foul magick... Try your best not to fall in this fight. The objective of this battle is to bring down Ewen and Ewen only. As the Nightfall has the Counter R-Ability it is recommended that you use ranged attack/abilities on him, if you're thinking of inflicting debuffs on this horrible Ninja forget the idea, as he has the Passive Ability "Impervious" which nullify quite a number of negative effects. Just have your strongest ranged members do the dirty job. Ewen has the Ninja "Throw" ability equipped, if you've "Sticky Fingers" then you can catch and keep the weapons he threw at you. The Nightfall also has a couple of Veils techniques that is elemental-based plus debuff. So be careful. The Time Mage will use Haste on his comrades, remove him if you can, but like I've said: the objective for this fight is Ewen, just bring the bug- ger down A.S.A.P. For some odd reasons I've great luck as Ewen walk towards my clan and I just surround him and beat him up real good, ending the whole battle in less than 5 rounds or so. =========================================================================== STRATEGY - EWEN ESCAPED, JUDGE OK! ALL IS GOOD =========================================================================== Ewen will escape. Luso will check on the Judge and will breathe a sigh of relieve to know that "he" is ok. Head for Graszton as our hero found an odd jewel (assumed dropped by Ewen). Back in Graszton Cid will suggest that you head for Moorabella to have the artifact appraised, while you're there you could check out the cool Aero- drome as well. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------- MISSION 010: GROUNDED! [GD#] ---------------------------- Head for Moorabella and a small cutscene will occur, after a small talk Luso will want to take a ride on an airship. As you're about to head out you'll overhear a conversation between 3 adventurers saying that the Aero- drome is out of service. Tough luck! Your direction will change and to the Pub you will go. Over at the Pub there's an interesting rumor regarding Passive Abilities, have a read and the notice regarding Chita's Weaponsmith will most likely open up a series of quests related to Chita. AND FAMILIAR FACES =========================================================================== As soon as you step into the ariship you'll spot a Nu Mou mumbling to him- self, basking in the glory of his own genius handiwork in modifying air- ships. Luso will then "offer" to bring in the prankster before he does anymore weird things to the Aerodrome. Vaan will step in... And both Luso and the Sky Pirate will argue... And then you fight! Genius Ed is the objective here, be careful of his "Bio" ability as it damages and Poisons you at the same time, Water and Aero shouldn't be a problem. While going for Ed is very tempting to quickly end this brawl I suggest that you eliminate everyone else first for Loots and Experience. Keep Ed for last. Your top priority is the Time Mage as he has the "Quicken" ability. An ability that allows a unit to have his/her turn to come up instantly. Don't clump together as this will allow the Time Mage to use Slow on you which is er... Annoying? Next on the list will be the White Mage. The Fusilier have both Blindshot and Silenceshot equipped which is a rather dangerous thing he should be next after the White Mage. I trust that you have at least Esuna or brought items to counter the debuffs if you're inflicted?... The Berserker only fearful ability is "Smite of Rage" a skill that damages you and inflicts various debuffs. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - AERODROME SAVED! =========================================================================== What will happen next? Next up will be Penelo giving Vaan a good dressing- down, Vaan will try to "apologize" to you by hinting at you about a hidden treasure found in "Tramdine Fens." The Aerodrome will be your next stop. Pay 300 Gil for your tickets. Cid will join your party again this time you will be able to control the Bangaa, no more a Guest character you see, which I personally think is cool. Equip and prepare him accordinly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- MISSION 011: RUMORS ABOUND [RA#] -------------------------------- Head for the Pub and accept "Rumors Abound" as your next mission. Your W. Mage will have a lot of fun here if you allow him or her to have it, for his healing abilities can heal you and damage the undead enemies. Your top priority here will be the Wraith as he has the "Wake The Dead" ability which allows him to summon more undeads to the battlefield. But seeing where the guy is, do you think you're able to kill him first? Just deal with them as they come. When the undead turns to a tombstone use a Phoenix Down to completely remove them from the field. If for some amusing reason you forgot to purchase some Phoenix Down then other similar ability include Exorcise, it's a W. Monk exclusive and I believe Cid have it with him. The Wraith is able to cast "Darkga" to damage you and heal his comrades. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - ORB OF MISFORTUNE =========================================================================== Watch the cutscene, as Luso faints... Head to the nearest town (Fluorgis) and you will get another cutscene with the sickly Luso. Apparently Luso isn't the only one, there are others too suffering from "sleepless nights" ... Back on the World Map head for the Pub and accept "Sleepless Night" as your next mission. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------- MISSION 012: SLEEPLESS NIGHTS [SN#] ----------------------------------- Nazan Mines is just next to Tramdine Fens. o-----------------------------------------------------o | o MI. II =========================================================================== Same strategy applies here: your W. Mage can have a lot of fun with his or her Cure spells, when the undead becomes a tombstone; get rid of it with a Phoenix Down or the ability Exorcise (W. Monk). The Oversoul is the objective here, remove him and the battle will end immediately. He came armed with "Deep Sleep" which will stop and put you to sleep, weird combination if you ask me, "Shackle" will immobilize and disables you both are pretty dangerous, especially if they combine that with Dark/Darkga (heal them, hurt you). So my advice is to just aim for the Oversoul, otherwise they'll just drag this whole battle. =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - MEMORIES OF THE PAST =========================================================================== The yellow orb will leave Luso's body, more flashback of the past and then some. Head back to town after all of this drama. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- MISSION 013: MAKING MUSIC [MM#] ------------------------------- The nearest available town is of course "Flurogis," drop by and you will spot a small gathering at the corner of the Pub, this lovable Moogle here is Hurdy. The two Sprites you see here have only mastered Meteorite, the Banshee on the other hand has Petrifying Rattle at her disposal, the Dreamhares are small fry, the Lamia has Night, very dangerous she'll usually Night your asses when she's in Critial HP or when you surround her, the chance of it happening is even greater when she in Critical HP and you surround her. The first order of business is to remove the Banshee since she is nearby anyway, followed by the two Sprites, the Dreamhares are next just gang up on them and they will go down faster than the "speed of light." Leave the Gria alone unless you're willing to break the law...you can still hurt her though via the means of R-Abilities (Counter, etc). The Gria came with the three Crushes (Mind, Power and Speed), be careful. If you have a Bishop or Sage with Aero bring one or both in to wreak havoc on the Golems as they're weak against the Wind element. The Ranger will be an annoying bugger setting traps like nobody's business, in all honesty he should be at the top of your "to-slaughter list." Once everybody else is gone, take out the Alchemist, oh! I forgot to men- tion the Alchemist has the Beast Lore: Headless ability but it's nothing to frown or whine about... =========================================================================== AFTER BATTLE - ALL IS SAID AND DONE! =========================================================================== Make haste to the nearest town (Fluorgis, of course!) and Hurdy will hand you a Sprial Vine and 2500 Gil to make his instrument at the Bazaar. Go to the Bazaar and make whatever necessary I personally chose the Shining Lute, don't forget to purchase it once it is made! A small cutscene will occur watch it and Hurdy will join your clan. -NOTE--------------------------------------------------------------------- Hurdy is a valuable character to have at all times, his Songs can help you in many a situations. -----------------------------------------------------------------END NOTE- Purchase the ticket back to Moorabella once you're there the usual (!) will be above the snow town, head on over. A cutscene will occur whereby Adelle will be approached by a blue-haired hume. "Titbits" is a nice typo there dear translator! After a short chat Adelle will walk down the pub a little bit, if you look over at the bottom corner you will see a Moogle with golden hair stub that is a recruitable character: Montblanc. Cid and Luso will be back from the appraiser shop. Rare stone it is and a new mission awaits. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
