                  	0.1.0 - INTRODUCTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
==========================================================================

Welcome to my first GameFAQs guide! I hope to supply you with an excellant
resource for planting and growing trees of any type in your town with the
most success, with or without WiFi.

I decided to make this guide after getting re-involved in the game and the
community, as well as I always wanted an excuse to write an in-depth FAQ.
Growing and maintaing trees in Wild World is probably one of my favorite
things to do, both for the collecting and maintenance aspects. Growing
specific trees can also greatly benefeit your wallet and help you pay off
your home loan to Tom Nook!

If you have anything you would like to add, correct or just want to give
me some feedback throw me an email at: [email protected] and I'll get
back to you quickly! Please don't send me issues regarding spelling errors
or other grammatical issues, I will correct them in later versions when I
spot them.

Without further ado, lets get to the guide!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                  0.2.0 - THE BASICS OF GROWING TREES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
==========================================================================

Growing trees is a relatively simple process as long as you understand the
concepts and bounds behind it. First of all, you will need to obtain a
shovel (see section 1.5.0) of some type. After this, you basically just got
to dig a hole in a suitable location and plant your fruit or Bells. Saplings
do not require you to dig a hole or own a shovel.

Also, unlike flowers, trees DO NOT need to be watered to survive.

The most common error made is that some people don't know that trees do not
thrive usually unless clear of a few obstacles. Obstacles include resident
houses, walls, bodies of water, other trees, etc. The diagrams below show
in what conditions a tree will most likely survive.

X - Obstacle
O - Open Space
P - Plant

A.     B.     C.     D.
XOOO   XOOO   OOOO   OOOO
XOPO   XOOO   OXXO   OOPO
XOOO   XPOO   XPXO   OOOO
XOOO   XOOO   OOOO   OOOO

Figure A: Has a high chance of living due to the obstacles not being near
contact with the plant.

Figure B: Has a low chance of living due to it being pushed up too close
to a number of obstacles.

Figure C: Has the lowest chance of living due to it being completely
surrounded by obstacles.

Figure D: Has the highest chance of living due to it being completely
clear of any obstacles.

Another sort of "invisible" obstacle that can cause your plants to die off
without question is lots of future residents. Anything planted in the area
of one will have a 100% death chance. Typically, these areas are located
around the signs in your town, so if you see a sign, don't plant ANYTHING
near it.

It should also be noted that certain types of trees have a higher survival
chance then others, and each will be mentioned later in this guide.

                       1.1.0 - TREE TYPES CHART
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
==========================================================================

Below is a few charts I created to quickly show the properties of each type
of tree, you can use it to find out which trees you would like to grow as
well as collect other useful information about each type in general.

Legend:

NAME - The name of the type of tree.
PAYOUT - The amount of Bells that the trees product will sell for.
COST - The amount of bells required to purchase/plant the tree.
LEVEL - On a level of 1 to 3, how complex the tree is to obtain.

       NOTE: The level complexity rating has been created for the purpose
       of this guide, it is not official in any way.

==========================================================================
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                      1.2.0 - BASIC FRUIT TREES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
==========================================================================

When you entered your town for the first time, you probably noticed that one
type of fruit was growing on many trees in your town. This fruit is called
the "native fruit", this is because it grows naturally in your town without
the need of special methods. This fruit will be one of the following:
pear, cherry, apple, orange or peach.

Your native fruit can be sold for the amount of 100 Bells at Tom Nooks,
but foreign fruit that does not grow in your town naturally will sell at
the price of 500 Bells, which is quite a significant increase. This means
that it is a very good idea to consider growing a foreign fruit in order to
make Bells at a very rapid rate.

Fruit trees have a high chance of living, considered to be the same amount
as normal/passive trees do.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
		  1.2.1 - GROWING BASIC FRUIT TREES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fruit trees are easily grown if you already have one existing tree of the
same type in your town. All you need to do is plant a fruit of the type
of tree that you want in a suitiable location. It is harder to grow foreign
fruit due to the fact that you need a way of obtaining it.

When growing foreign fruit trees, it is VERY important to make sure you do
not waste any rare fruit and plant them in only the most likely spots they
will grow, see section 0.1.0 for more information on how to best plant them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
		   1.2.2 - OBTAINING FOREIGN FRUIT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hard part of spreading diverse trees in your town is the fact that its
only home to one type of fruit tree. There are a few ways to obtain foreign
fruit for planting, and here are a lot (if not all) of them:

  - Visiting a friends town, local or WiFi, most people don't mind if you
    take a couple of their common native fruit.

  - This is an easy method that is often unheard of: send a letter to each
    of your towns citizens with your native fruit as a gift, they sometimes
    will send a foreign fruit back in return.*

  - Your mom will sometimes mail foreign fruit to you on certain holidays.

  - Chat with your citizens, sometimes they will give you quizes that will
    result in you getting a foreign fruit when answered correctly.

*It is said that the letter you send must be only one sentence or line
 long with perfect grammar, this is still uncomfirmed.I am yet to try this
 method under different conditions, so experimenting is up to you.

Again, since foreign fruit is very valuable be sure to plant them in the
best possible locations for most likely growth in your town!

==========================================================================
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                        1.3.0 - PASSIVE TREES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
==========================================================================

Passive trees are trees that have no function in your town other then just
looking decent and appeal to the townsfolk. There are two types of trees
in this category: oak and cedar. Both are planted from saplings that can
be bought from Tom Nooks for 60 Bells each.

Unlike fruit trees, passive trees can be planted without a shovel. Simply
just select the sapling and hit "Plant" to plant it in the ground that you
are facing towards. Nook can sell up to two sapplings a day depending on
the size of his store. It should be noted that cedar trees usually (if not
always) only grow if planted in the northern end of your town.

Passive trees have a high chance of living if they are placed in a suitable
location.

==========================================================================
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                        1.4.0 - SPECIAL TREES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
==========================================================================

Special trees are trees that must be obtained by special methods. There are
two types of special trees you can grow in your town: coconut trees and
money trees. Each is a little hard to obtain, so I will try to explain as
best as I can.

Each of these trees have a low survival chance, so getting one in your town
is quite an accomplishment, particularly the money tree.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                     1.4.1 - GROWING COCONUT TREES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Growing coconut trees is quite a challenge. First, you must obtain a coconut.
These randomly will wash up on the beach once and a while, so check each day
until you find one. Once you obtain one, you must be VERY careful planting
it to try and get the best survival probability. Coconuts MUST be planted
near the beach, yet not on it, on the grass. Get as close as possible without
nearing the sand at the same time, and plant the coconut in the ground.

Generally, even with taking these precautions, coconuts have a very low
survival probability. Getting the first coconut tree to prosper is the most
important part, as once it grows you can rapidly spread more trees with the
coconuts it grows. You will probably need to try a few times for the first.

Coconuts are worth the same amount as foreign fruits, 500 Bells, but the
tree itself has a unique appearence compared to all other types of trees
as an added bonus.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                      1.4.2 - GROWING MONEY TREES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Money trees require that you own a golden shovel, if you don't have on yet
go to section 1.5.0 to find out how to easily obtain one. In a nutshell,
money trees are grown by using the golden shovel to plant Bells that have
a chance of growing into a money tree. The money tree grown will supply
the same amount of money planted x3, so if you plant 1000 Bells, you can
grow a tree that gives off 3000 Bells. Money trees can only be harvested
only once.

Altough this may sound fantastic, their is a VERY small chance that the
tree will actually survive after planted. There are rumours that the more
Bells you plant, the higher the survival rate. I will not suggest doing
this incase it is incorrect. Money trees also take one full week to fully
grow and mature.

Money trees are capped at only being able to produce 90,000 Bells (3 bags
of 30,000 Bells) so be sure to plant no more then 30,000 in the ground or
else you will be wasting good money!

==========================================================================
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
                        1.5.0 - Types of Shovels
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
==========================================================================

There are two types of shovels in the game, both are relativley easy to get.
The first being the regular shovel and the second being the upgraded golden
shovel which has the ability to plant Bell trees. The player will first be
able to buy a shovel from Tom Nooks when it randomly appears in his store
on one of the equipment slots.

Obtaining a golden shovel is slightly harder, but still easily do able. You
must own two shovels and plant one in the ground using the other. After this,
you must wait a complete 24 hours and then proceed to dig it back up again.
If all goes correctly, the shovel that you have dug up will now be golden.

After doing this, you can bury the other shovel and repeat the same process
to get two golden shovels. This can be repeated an infinite amount of times
with different shovels bought at Tom Nooks. Why you would want to do this I
have no idea.
