Before you fight sideways how do you use the bomb to destroy the genorator without dying

When you are trying to destroy the generator, you have to pick it up and throw it while jumping, to throw it high over the forcefield. It is helpful while fighting sideways to have the frost rifle equiped(It doesn't hurt sideways, but it freezes everyone else)
