You have to go to the thrift shop between 5 and 7 pm to participate in the auction. The saxophone reed can be bought at the thrift shop anytime after you help cannonball coleman with his lyrics.
You get the saxophone reed at the auction, and the auction is held inside of the thrift shop (talk to the person standing next to the mirror) between 5 and 7 pm.
