Go to where the cows are,click on one and choose the option "Take bell".

You go to one of the cows just before you go into the desert.. You go up to one of them and one of the options says 'retrieve cowbell' or something along those lines..

Go to the cow field and walk up to a cow, and it will give you a option to take the cow bell.
