Stupid post thingys

Okay, there are these posts around different islands, they only seem to let you balance. But then why is there another one on the opposite platform or small island where treasure chests are, I can't get to them, is the posts there to help you to them, if so how? This is very grrrring for me.

You need the grappling hook which you get later on in the game to get from one to another.
