I am so frustrated and do not want to start all over again. I know I have done EVERYTHING correctly (I have looked up so many cheat sites!) but when I close my DS, I cannot get the sea crest to transfer on to my sea map. WHY?

Oh, this one really frustrated me, too!
I think the idea is to get the ds to register that it is closed, and sometimes with older ones, it might not work.
Give it a good close and press on the DS lid a bit (not too firmly) or try closing it fast.
Mine took a few goes, and I had to really close it.
If all else fails, have you got a friend who owns a DS, perhaps you can use theirs for a couple of seconds just to get past this bit. I doubt it is a glitch in the game, perhaps just a little niggle with your DS.
Are you trying it with the whole sea chart or did you select one of the quadrants? You have to open up the map and select the south-west sea chart (if memory serves) then try closing the DS and re-opening it. That's the only thing I can think of that maybe is going wrong.
Good Luck
