Question for Super Mario 64 DS

I'm in the level Jolly Roger bay and I'm doing plunder in the sunken ship and I was just wondering, how do you hit a block underwater?

I've pressed the a button but he smacks it and nothing happens.

Please answer A.S.A.P.!!!

You can't break a box while underwater. You need to drain the water out of the ship by touching the tresure chest at the bottom. While the water is draining, swim toward the wall the platform that the box was on was on. Jump up the platforms to the box and break it.
