cooking help

I have just got to the first cooking level in story mode just after remy escapes from the kitchen but I can't get any food prepared,it is the same in the cooking tutorial, no matter what I do I cannot cut any food.dont seem to have trouble crushing garlic etc but can't slice any ideas where I'm going wrong.

I had the same problem but I keep trying and after awhile I managed to get it to work what you do is cut once in a srait line and keep in the red line and you should be able to do it

When you cut food, you quickly go back and forward once, make sure you take the pen off each time. To slice put the pen on and slice down once, taking the pen off each time.
