My daughter started playing a new game on soul silver and now wants to save it. She found out the hard way that because she has an older game saved she now cannot save this new game. She figured out that she needs to manually delete her old game from the home screen by pressing a combination of buttons but she's afraid if she leaves her new game to do this (the one she wants to save) she will lose it all. Is this true? Is she just screwed, basically? Is there some way she can save this new game and get to the home screen to delete her old game without losing her new game so she can save it? PLEASE help! She REALLY wants to save this new game!!!

Unfortunately, her fears are true. You can only have one save file at a time. To get a new one you must delete the old one by pressing Up+Select+B at the title screen. If she started a new game without deleting the old, then the old file is safe but the new one isn't. I'm sorry, but she will have to lose all of the new file. Personally, I would like for the "New Game" option to either be hidden when there is an existing save file, or to give multiple warnings upon selecting it that you won't be able to save.
A tip for the future: Always save the game as soon as you can. This way if an old save file is present, you don't lose too much by turning off the game without saving.
