Once you have two Pokemon of the same egg group in the DayCare Center, it shouldn't be too long before they have an egg. If you are far away for the DayCare Center, you will get a call saying to go there. When this happens, it means your Pokemon had an egg.

It shouldn't take that long. What you have to have to get an egg is 2 of the same Pokemon but different sexes like a male and female or you can have a ditto with a Pokemon but it can't be a Legendary.

It depends entirely on how much the Pokemon like eachother. Speak with the daycare man to check. Same species works best, then different species from different games, then different species same game, then ditto and a pokemon. If the Pokemon are not in the same egg group, you will never get an egg.
