I do not think so. I believe you must erase your data manually. If you start a new game, I do not believe it will let you save.

If you just choose "New Game" then the previous save data will not be erased, however you will not be able to save the new game.
To save the new game you first have to erase the data by pushing a button combination at the title screen and then selecting to erase the data.

If you have already deleted the game talk to your mother you will get items in the menu then you can save by clicking save and saying yes to both of them but if you haven't deleted the game go to the title screen (where it says Pokemon soulsilver)press and hold these buttons: up select B and it will ask if you want to erase data say yes and wait after that do what is listed above -Pikabee
