Question for Pokemon Soul Silver
I brought a second hand game and can't find a way to delete the old game any advice on how to I've tried hold down up and B at the same time will not work

Well, for starters, you can't hold down and up on the D-pad at the same time. Just hit New Game on the main menu and save it to erase the old game. If that doesn't work, let me know. Hope this helps.

Umm... I don't think you can save on a new game in Pokemon SoulSilver without erasing the previous file. It's something the game creators put in the game to "prevent your little brothers and sisters from accidentally erasing your save file"

In order to delete the previous save file you need to press and hold B Select Up at the same time on the title screen where you see Lugia swimming. The game will then ask you if you want to delete your save file. Select yes and your game will be deleted.
