How do you move pokemon from R/B/Y/G/S to gen IV?

I was at Gamestop earlier and, while chatting with one of the guys about the HG/SS release and he said there was some way to move over Pokemon from Gen I/II to gen IV games involving a lot of equipment.

He's wrong. Although Gen I and Gen II games can trade with each other, and Gen III games can transfer Pokemon to Gen IV games, the first two Gens and the second two Gens simply cannot connect with each other. There is simply no way to do so.

Dudeguy96 answered:

Sorry, but that guy doesn't know what he's talking about. There isn't any way possible to transfer Pokemon from the GenI and GenII games to the GenIII or GenIV games.

Ryuujin answered:

The only reason why the first two generations could trade was because their platforms were compatible with the same cable. Once generation III came out, it was impossible to trade because Nintendo implememnted a different kind of connection cable. Generations III and IV can only allow Pokémon to move in one direction, and that is because the DS can integrate data from the DS cartridge and the GBA game. Therefore, generation IV is only compatible with itself and generation III. HeartGold and SoulSilver cannot trade with it's original versions.

pity answered:

Since the mechanics of the game were totally revamped, the Pokemon games from Gen I and II were left behind to avoid a compatibility chaos between those and the generations III and IV.

So, there's no way to do so.
