Special Events are events Nintendo helds every so often to give out exclusive Pokemon. There are quite a few legendaries that can only be (legally) obtained by going to those events, so keep an eye open.
You definitely want to visit one. ;)

First, tell more about this events...and second, maybe you're talking about the special events held just for Heartgold and Soulsilver. Reciently, it's going to be held an event just in Europe, with pre-release. They'll give Arceaus. More info at Serebbi.net.
