Could I still enter the codes for Pokemon pearl even if I have a action replay max. Or do I need to buy a newer version of the action replay.?

It depends can you use it for the DS and if so you will just have to update your action replay if you can so then you don't have to go buy a new one.
You would at least need to add Pearl to it if it isn't on there, other then, you wouldn't need the update, or you may need it.
