Pokerus is a very rare virus that infects one of your pokemon. When you go to a poke center and heal Nurse Joy will say one of them is infected. A Pokemon that has Pokerus will gain twice the EV's from a Pokemon then it normally would. But it will only help you if you train for competitive battling.

A Pokemon that does not have the virus will gain the normal amount of EV's.

I will use an example from Pokemon Ruby.

My Aggron is not infected with Pokerus. I kill a Spinda, and I get 1 Spc. Att EV.

My Aggron is now infected with Pokerus. I kill a Spinda, but this time I get 2 Spc. Att EVs.

So Pokerus is rare, and don't let it leave. Infect a weak Pokemon with it and put it in your PC, and the virus wont go away. If you need the virus, put it back in your party.

Hope I helped.

Normal Pokemon: Has his basic stats, grows normaly, just like a normal pokemon.
Normal Pokemon + Pokerus: he will grow faster with EXP, his stats will increase, etc.
And to your second question, it happens about 5 of the time, but theres another way to get pokerus. Keep using a direct hit move, you can land on the Pokemon, then go to the Pokemon center, heal, and see it. But it happens 5 of the time like I said before. And there is no Pokemon thats the most common with pokerus.

PH68,the direct move thing you refer to is called physical move. As the Pokemon pokerus thing, its just random if a wild Pokemon is infected with pokerus and there is a slim chance you will ever find one that is infected so you will need a ton of luck if you ever hope to encounter an infected wild pokemon.
