It would be easier to answer this question if you'd defined in which way you are connecting to someone (GTS, Battle Tower, etc.). I am going to assume you mean connect to a friend in order to battle/ttrade. First, you and your friend(s) must exchange friend codes. This is in your Pal Pad. If you have never connected to Nintendo Wi-Fi before on your Pokemon Pearl, your friend code will be given to you the first time you connect. Once you have exchanged friend codes, go to the basement of any Pokemon Center and talk to the receptionist. The rest is self-explanatory. Remember, you can only do this with people whom are in your Pal Pad, not just random people. GTS and Battle Tower does not require friend codes. For GTS, just go the the Global Trading Station in Jubilife City to trade around the world. As for Battle Tower, just talk to the far right lady at the desks.
