Pikachu and mudkip teach pikachu discharge and mudkip blizzard

Torchic and squirtle: torchic learns mirror move wich negates all damage and reflects back to the move user. Squirtle has high defense and sp atk wich helps agaisnt other water types. If you recruit other Pokemon like gengar as well they become unstobable.

Riolu and charmander, riolu's type doesnt get poisend and charmander has high attak and sp atk.

I would have to say Totodile as the HERO and treecko as the PARTNER
When you take the personality test at the begining of the game try to get the SASSY nature if you are a GIRL or CALM if you are a boy

There is no best team. But if you want favorites, this is mine:

Piplup- a good water type, that learns peck, which will kill those grass and bug types. It evolves into a water/ steel type, which is good against fire, rock, ground.

And

Turtwig, or chimchar.

Turtwig- once it learns some ground type moves, it will take down electric types

Chimchar-
It will take down the rare but strong ice types, easily
