How do you befriend the three birds (articuno, moltres, zapdos)?

You just do but there are tips you can use a friend bow you can use a high level Pokemon and you will also need Pokemon that have a body mass of one or two stars that is all you need to know

When you beat them you get there area. But wait you can only recriut them if you beat raquaza

To befriend them, first you have to have beaten them at least one time. Then just keep beating them and when one joins, it unlocks Legendary Island for you. No poke is needed. Then battle the others. Some things can help increase the chance of them joining. Like:
The Friend Bow
High level Pokemon
Platinum Rank or above(diamond & lucario)

The true answer is : You have to beat th game ( kill rayquaza ) then , bring 1 two-sized Pokemon or 2 one-sized pokmon. You can see the size of Pokemon in the last page of summary
Then , conquer Mt.Thunder , Mt.Blaze and Frosty Forest
You can bring a friend bow too *(optional)*
Normally , they will join , but don't give up if they refuse to

After getting one of them , the Legendary Island is accessible and you will be able to get the others ; )

You just have to keep fighting them until they join you team.

P.S: You need a good team rank too and you need a friend bow for moltres.
