Question for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team

How do you get to recruit a new member?! I just have magnemite because he asked to join. I have overgrown forest and I (not my partner) defeated a scyther and I was standing adjacent to him but he didnt ask to be in my team. P.S. I am sure overgrown forest is his

There is never a 100% chance that you will have that Pokemon join your team, like a pokeball can never be 100% sure to catch a pokemon. Yes, you're right on scyther's friend area, though. My sister has almost beaten the game, and the only non-event Pokemon she has on her team is a sudowoodo. Having a Pokemon join your team is all up to chance, but a few things can increase that chance.

1) your level, the higher, the better
2) friend bow, it makes your chances even HIGHER!!!!
3) Your LEADER has to kill it.
