If you start a new game it will erase all your Pokemon and items. The only way to keep your Pokemon is by trading them over to another game card. If you have Soul Silver, Pearl, Diamond, or Platinum and another DS just trade them over to one of those games. If you have them and you have wifi, you could ask someone in the Pokemon Trading Forum to help you trade the Pokemon over to your other game, if you don't have an extra DS. Anyway theres no other way to keep your Pokemon unless you trade them over before you start a new game.
